Right, sorry. Start of Oxnard. Heath mentioned Tacoma and I didn't know what he was referring to, Ralf. Thanks.
I only mentioned Tacoma as I know the lack of labels happened sometime -after- Tacoma since my D55 still had one. But again, I digress as I’ve gotten far off topic. Back to the rosewood!

Yea,
I’ll know once it arrives. The pics I have don’t show very well for color designation. So
I’ll have to wait until it arrives. (I’d do a buck as well cause I’m not a gambling man either) all my extra coin goes towards Guilds:LOL:
:)

Note also I made a correction to my post above: "Cherry Sunburst" was only standard on electrics, not flattops as originally entered.
Having said that, Guild was very flexible about accepting orders for "non-standard" colors on models although I believe it was limited to one of the overall "standard colors", except for Nashville Custom Shop builds that featured some one-of-a-kinds like Bono's orange JF30.

Wow, Oxnard been going for 5 years now. Time flies. Glad they have been keeping the brand alive!

Guild could be long ago out to pasture.

You could almost say 7 years as CMG bought Guild in 2014 already. Sure with production starting end of 2015 it's 5 1/2 years now. But in any case longer than New York, Corona and Tacoma and as long as New Hartford (5 1/2 years production) already! But New Hartford had for their 5 1/2 years production an extremely broad range of models in production! Shows how great they were there. But yes, CMG is at least doing a good job to keep the brand running.

Yeah, and a lot of the production is MIC, but that is sort of the model now for a lot of guitar mfgs today...
I am just thanking them in my post for even keeping Guild US alive.

Like Jim Morrison said: "The West(erly) is the best. It's better than the rest".

I think @SFIV1967 was defining production in terms of US factories and not total number of branded instruments.

We should probably keep in mind that New Hartford never produced as many as 5,000 Guilds in one year so 25,000 instruments is a good upper bound for the total production of the factory. That is in contrast to Westerly that had one year in the 60's that produced about 25,000 Guilds. (That number is from my memory of an estimate that I tried to compile from serial number data. My memory or the number might be a little off but my point is still made).

There is no doubt in my mind that selling non-US made Guilds kept the brand name alive while CMG built out and then ramped up production in Oxnard.

My buddy's '75 D35 is tobacco 'burst.

according to who?

"tobbaco burst" I would associate with a mahogany top, like a les paul jr or S-100, or a mahogany top acoustic.

congrats on the purchase! i'd say u did pretty good if it is as clean as the seller claims. it certainly looks clean.

not the best picture but this could be amber burst, antique burst, or sun burst. have seen "ice tea burst" used in assoication with Tacoma Guilds, that looked like this. but never seen that on a Guild label that I can recall.

"tobbaco burst" i would not associate with this guitar

I don't think it's Amber, and while I suspect it's actually something about the lighting that's allowing the edges to appear so "faded"especially on the upper bout but it might also actually be somewhat "undersprayed"

And I only recall seeing "Sunburst" without distinguishing "tint names" for flattops in the '70's, and only recall "Antique Burst" for flattops (with a couple of anomalous D4's) in the '90's, and only ever recall seeing "Tobacco Burst" on electrics.

And it may well have been special ordered with a non-standard finish ("Tobacco Burst" on a '97 flattop), if not simply produced that way as part of their usual "running changes" or "Just because we can" methodology.... :)

Here are couple more pics with somewhat better lighting that the seller sent me. You will notice a reflection at bottom of guitar in one of the photos, It’s a women’s shoe reflecting in the finish. I asked seller if he had all original case candy and he said yes and has included it all with the sale, factory hang tags, polish cloth truss rod wrench and misc paperwork. He stated that he bought it new but never played it, sat in its case other than checking on it and humidifying it. I’m feeling rather fortunate so far, It should arrive first part of next week. Looking forward to new guitar day!

Tobacco Sunburst has nothing to do with a mahogany top. Look at all the Les Pauls.
Hans had posted that picture of my '87 Nightbird when he owned her with different pickups and he called her "Tobacco Sunburst" (which was not a regular color code):

Example of a 1995 Westerly Tobacco Sunburst on a spruce top:

i have never heard of tobbaco burst on a spruce or maple guitar, and even with your Guild evidince and whatever Hans confirmed about it, my previously posted opinion is unchanged

all the photos being posted are 2-color sunbursts (as opposed to 3). there is nothing tobbaco about them. i think 90 something percent of the guitar population would call those iced tea burst over tobbaco.
i hate that word on guitars, regardless. roasted hashish burst, now that would be ok

Isn't the antique sunburst simply a three-color version, including some red?

The "tobacco" bursts look like just a little yellow and mostly brown, and the "ice tea" bursts are similar, but with more yellow.
