... four, well, don't give up yet.

Ralph

After four, I gave up Ralph. What sounds good to any individual is so subjective, but hey, I gave it the old college try!

I found this to be the best deal ever on vintage Rosewood, some of the 70's MIJ Martin copies... some are crazy good with extremely good tone. This one is bright and has HUGE bass.

While not rosewood per say but sounds like it, I hear a good late 60s early 70s Yamaha FG300 is sought after.

Still on reverb those go for $600 range. And for that, I am either giving up my rosewood quest and looking for a D25 or save some more and wait for a D50.

I actually decided that my D25M had a slight tonal edge over my DV52, but the D25 isn't rosewood.

Good evening folks,
I know this is an older thread from February 2021. My question is this, I found a Guild DV-52 on reverb today listed at 1399.00 and it’s a burst finish which is what caught my attention. I have only seen one or two burst finish DV-52’s in the past. The person selling stated it was a 1997 and after checking serial it was correct. (Westerly built fender owned by then) Now I’ll be honest, I tried to get the price down a bit to no avail. Long story short I bought it. Can anyone tell me how many burst finish DV-52’s were built I cannot locate information. The seller told me that he bought it new and it’s never been played, so basically N.O.S. To a certain degree. Anyway seller stated he ended up leaving in case and basically monitored it. I own it now but of course waiting upon shipment. I will enclose a photo and if anyone has build numbers on Burst finish DV-52’s I’d appreciate the information. Thanks folks for any replies.

Congrats! Good move. Super nice looking guitar. I was watching that one and if I played dreads would have pounced. I don’t know how many there were but the SB is much less common.

My original goal was to continue to wait for a D-55 but this one came across my feed and I could not afford to let it pass. I will keep researching the build numbers though, and I’m fairly certain the burst numbers will be low.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate any and all feedback.

looks like your burst is lighter than I have seen before on a DV-52. Guitar prices are going up, "just like everything".

Hi Guild Guy I'd b surprised if anybody here has that info at hand except possibly member Hans Moust who has Westerly production records, but I seem to recall that even those don't always have the info. I don't think I've ever seen a breakdown of number produced by finish color.

But he can be reached here, just to make sure:

Nice DV-52 Guildguy! Of course, I'm a sucker for a nice 'burst DV52, here's the one I bought about 20 years ago, my son owns it now. It was customized with abalone fret blocks by the first owner.

Yes, I think the other DV-52 bursts that I've seen are the darker "antique burst" style. This one looks like an "ice tea burst".

Congrats on the new guitar!
Seem to recall label should say "AB" for Antique Burst, not sure if what "Tobacco" would have read as, from '98 catalog:

Not even sure any acoustics got "Tobacco", but for sure was used on electrics.
