    Gruhn Era reputation

I'm a fingerstyle player and as you can see below, I know nothing about dreads. I can vouch for the great sound of the GF 60's I own as well as the GF 50 12. As you would expect the neck width on the six strings is much narrower than on the twelve which more closely resembles the width of an F...

Guild sighting in the movie "Higher Ground"

Watch for the Chesterfield logo in the first third of film. A dread being played by the boyfriend/husband character if I recall correctly.

Great view of a Guild D-?

Sad Pig Dance with a Guild

Nice work on this version of the Dave Evan's classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cIG0AYrq_8 Enjoy!

Why do you have several guitars?

I play in multiple tunings and decided I wanted to keep a guitar in each tuning so that I don't have to mess with going back and forth as I practice.

Luthier Kim Walker Era Guild Acoustic Guitars??

Don't have a picture to post but the GF60 is another of the handful of Gruhn/Walker designs. Lower bout of 16" and a thinner neck than is typical of Guilds. Double diamond fret inlays, G shield head stock with Grover tuners, and a killer balanced sound if I must say so myself. Around 300 were...

    If you like Kottke...

Here is a link to the listing for the cd which includes short samples of all the tracks. As I stated previously, this guy sounds great playing his 12 string. http://www.dragcity.com/products/the-lo ... a-sessions

    If you like Kottke...

In the late 70's Mark Fosson recorded a demo for John Fahey's Takoma label just before Fahey sold it. Fahey returned the tapes and Fosson's amazing 12 string instrumentals went unheard and unappreciated for nearly 30 years. This despite Fahey's praise of the Fosson demo as the best since...

Taylor Guitar ad "I didn't know I could play"

Amusing ad on TV from someone hawking financial services while touring the Taylor factory. It ends with her spontaneously playing a little flamenco style riff, and as she does so, Bob Taylor raises his eyebrows in amazement (akin to Bugs Bunny). Voice over of Bob saying he didn't know she...

    Double Guild sighting

The film preview for "Wonderful World" shows two Guilds in action as well a memorable quote about guitar playing. Loon

    Finish Checking

Is there any way to correct limited finish checking? As a non-technical type I would naively think focused heat might work (think lasers, computers, and lab coats). What has been tried by the professionals who deal with guitar repair and/or restoration?

    GF30 and beyond!

All three of my GF's were ebay purchases from four to five years ago. A friend, teacher, and Guild aficionado found two of them and I happened onto the third. I'm still thanking him for his help and suggestions since I knew absolutely nothing about guitars when I was started looking. He put a...

Sgt Pepper Live by Cheap Trick

Available in both cd and as a DVD this effort to give Sgt Pepper a live performance is truly impressive. It seems to have been lost in all the recent Beatles hype. But if you like both of these bands chances are you'll enjoy this release. I've found it to be alot of fun. Gruhn Loon

    G shield inlay work

I reviewed some Taylor videos online recently and was marveling at the efficiency and accuracy of the laser and computer driven production techniques. Got me to wondering how much time it took on average to complete the handmade inlay work for the G shield and/or the Chesterfield logo found on...

    Recommend a Guild for fingerpicking

I've had no experience with a GF maple and only a small amount of time playing dreads . That said, I really like my GF60's and I spend most of my time fingerpicking. The minijumbo is a style that has the potential to provide a very balanced sound and the indian rosewood of the body is also...

    Favorite Christmas Music

I'm a big fan of the previously mentioned John Fahey album "The New Possibility". "Midwinter" by Peter Mayer which includes all original songs about the season is another favorite. Also California Guitar Trio has one titled "A Christmas Album" that is wildly impressive.

How to find a Guild GF-25 Case

Hi there c70man, Can't provide any leads on a Guild brand case. I did purchase a road runner dread style case for a Hohner F-1 that has dimensions very much like the GF's that own. Just tried a GF60 in the case and while a snug fit, chances are it would get the job done. Gruhn Loon
