I have a Celtic Christmas CD that is all acoustic and wonderful.
We just purchased a new Elvis Christmas CD with him singing duets with some of the Ladies of Country Music. The women have been dubbed in.
It's really not too bad!

I can't point to any one performer, maybe Mary Chapin Carpenter, but I sure love singing O Holy Night. Back when I was a kid, my Mom would take us kids in the choir caroling (it's seems there was always snow on the ground) around to the homes up the valley. Our last stop was always an elderly lady named Anna Smithberger. She had come to America from Germany and still spoke with an accent. She would sing Silent Night in German and then treat us kids to hot chocolate and these really great cookies. Man, the memories! Great post Dreadnut! My Grandpa told be when he was in the trenches during WWI, that the Christmas he was there, they stopped fighting and the German and American troops got together and sung Christmas carols. How easy we can put away our differences if we set our hearts and minds to it. That's why Christ was born!!
Check out Jethro Tulls Christmas album, you can here some of it on their myspace site, I think it's myspace.com/jethrotull. Love that Pennywhistle.

"It was Christmas in prison and the food was real good,
we had turkey and pistols all carved out of wood."

John Prine

Now there's Christmas music for the ages. It's a touching tune and fun to play and sing; right up there with Silent Night and Adeste Fidelis, and all the ones about that fat guy trying to squeeze into the chimney.

Ho, ho, ho,

Hey John, that is so great performing for the Alzheimers patients. My Mom ended up with that destructive devil and when she lived with us before her death, she would have moments where she would ask me "do you still play guitar and sing"? God Bless you !!

I'm not crazy about Christmas or Christmas music, but I do like Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas baby" a lot, his own, and Chuck Berry's versions.

Smoky Robinson's "Jingle Bells" is about as good as it gets.

Other favorites:

Willie Nelson "Pretty Paper"
The Db's "Christmas Time"
Big Star "Jesus Christ"
Miracle Legion "Little Drummer Boy"

"All the snow has turned to water,
Christmas Day has come and gone.
Broken toys and faded colors,
are all that's left to linger on."

Now this is a great thread.
My all time favorite, warmth in my heart, tears in my eyes, Christmas song is "Oh Holy Night".

Anything by Vince Gill at Christmas time works well for me.

And of course no Christmas is complete without the Eagles, "Please Come Home For Christmas".
They just hafta be using Guild guitars, otherwise how could they sound so good?

And I ain't crazy about Christmas...music...however,I am crazy about Christ. And I will sing His praises all my days! Whoohoo!!

Hey, PVG, "O Holy Night" really moves me too. I have a fingerpicking version of that figured out on my acoustic, its in "G".

I'm also partial to "Silent Night" which, as legend has it, was written on a guitar.

Don't ever call me that again!

Hey, tonight is our last night of the year at the Alzheimer's unit, we'll be singing a lot of Christmas stuff as well as all the old favorites. We make an hour disappear pretty quick :D .

I'm a big fan of the previously mentioned John Fahey album "The New Possibility". "Midwinter" by Peter Mayer which includes all original songs about the season is another favorite. Also California Guitar Trio has one titled "A Christmas Album" that is wildly impressive.
