Amusing ad on TV from someone hawking financial services while touring the Taylor factory. It ends with her spontaneously playing a little flamenco style riff, and as she does so, Bob Taylor raises his eyebrows in amazement (akin to Bugs Bunny). Voice over of Bob saying he didn't know she could play and she says "I didn't know I could play either". They had me laughing until the voice over but the whole thing was still entertaining.

I thought it was pretty good, but more importantly from a business stand point it was tremendous exposure. Howd he do that ?

That was my take, as well.

How would we feel if it were done at Guild instead?

I think the ad is pretty effective. Very clever. Be intersting to find out how the ad company who created the spot hooked up with Taylor.

Hi LTP; I thought it was pretty funny ... maybe he either volunteered or actually paid some of the production costs; he gets good pub ... so does the finance company ... whose name most of us don't remember anyway ...

GE Capital. I guess growing up in a General Electric town sensitized me to the name although I still don't understand why GE, GM and other industrial manufacturers branch out into finances. Kind of scary if your customers can't afford or find financing to buy your products.

This notes that Taylor has been a client of GE Capital's since 2000, the ad is a joint marketing campaign to increase mutual visibility and that the GE exec in the commercial is a gifted avocational musician.

It's probably all part of a campaign to counter the Taylors in Viva Viagra. Sure glad they didn't use Guilds in that one.

I recall from my long-ago music store days that GE Capital was big on the floorplan funding for the big manufacturers. Maybe this is still the case. But in any event, the ad is (IMHO) brilliant. Easy to see how Taylor has come so far in a relatively short time.

I caught that ad as well, and yes it's GE Capital. GE offers financing for many music stores. In our area, they've offered 0% finanancing for a year or less over the last few years. They've been associated with NAMM over the years too.

Great exposure for Taylor. And, yeah, it made me chuckle.

The irony: I bought my Guild F-512 with GE/NAMM financing. Like any credit card, once that period is over, you'd better have paid the thing off or you're looking at 25% or worse finance charges.

Funnier still was the impression it gives that all those people actually make the guitars, when most of the guitar is built using machines with people acting as helpers.

I didn't get that impression at all, although it may be as simple as what do we mean by "make". The Guild philosophy as expressed in the NH factory operations is to let the machines do what they do best and have people do the rest. It looks like, from the commercial, that Taylor may be doing something similar.

Chaz, that was more like 29.99% or higher if I recall correctly...boy did I make sure that I didn't make a late payment on my D55! Cut that card into little tiny pieces when I made the last of the payments...

But they are really trolling for those that will trip up in the system...I gave round numbers over the phone about my income (retirement only, not adding in part time fire academy work)...and they approved me for DOUBLE the amount of the new D55.

Our friend joked that I could buy two...SWMBO was not amused...
