    Bought son his first bass

Subtly indoctrinating him with this Dearmond Pilot. Thru neck and active, not bad for 275 bucks! He's 15 and only playing for a couple of months.

    What is this '90s T-500?

I always relate the T-500 to the Duane Eddy model and then the more recent GSR thinline with Franzes. Anyone know anything about this model? https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/guild-t-500-usa-beautiful-rare-find/1462485141

    '80s DE-500 Reissues

I'm interested in the '80s DE-500 reissues. Specifically, the pickups. Was Guild, Gretsch or anyone else making Dynasonics at this point? Are they "real", as in, do they have long magnets? I note they have little risers which the originals did not have. I'm guessing these are Gretsch made pickups.

    M90 Custom

Hi does anyone know about M90 Custom Serial 9360020? Do you own it/have you owned it? It's a fraud watch question. Thanks Toby

    WTB GSR T-500

If the price is right, I'll ship from anywhere but Europe will be cheaper.

    WTB Guild M70 Custom

Not fussy about colour. The Dynasonic version preferred. Thanks

    Guild hates black guitars!

The black A150 discontinued, the blonde still available, the black Aristocrat discontinued, the sunburst still available, the black Starfire III discontinued... You can get a Starfire Jet 90 in black but it's matte and therefore doesn't count Incidentally, if anyone wants to sell me a black A150

    99J advice

There's a 99J in my neighbourhood, although it's not mega cheap. I'm actually in the market for an amp, but was looking at a nice Bassman head. I heard the 99J is a dark amp, do others agree? Will it overdrive if cranked? Thanks

    Archtop earth lead tips

So i know the trick about using surgical tubing to help get those pesky pots back in place when rewiring an archtop, but what's the tip for getting the earth lead back through that tiny hole next to the strap button?

    NGD: new Starfire III

So I joined the yellow switch club. I got a good deal on a new SFIII in black and bit the bullet. I paid £681 all in, which is €800 and about $905. I'll post pics in due course, but you've all seen them a million times. I measured the pups and they're still mismatched: 7.1k neck, 5.35k...

    M70 vibrato install

So after my lengthy vibrato experiment on a sacrificial DeArmond M65, I finally fitted one to the Guild M70 which is my number one player for the last year or so. Apologies for quick and dirty phone pics. This is the Duesenberg unit. I can peel off the little D logo if i decide I don't like it...

    What model is this?

Thinline, single cut but with Venetian cutaway, master volume. Doesn't look like a Duane and no signature on the scratchplate.

What guitar is George playing here?

Two Dearmonds but I can't read the headstock

    A question about necks

As I've mentioned as often as decently allowed, I really like the neck on my SFIII-90. I'm looking at ordering a neck for a bolt-on, and I'm wondering, how do i get close to the profile of the neck on my Starfire? Is there a standard way to measure them? I can get a contour gauge such as...

    Seymour Staples

I'm aware some folks here have tried the Seymour Duncan staples. Given how amazingly expensive they are and impossible to find used (it seems) can someone give me some user info? I'm primarily after making my SF III-90 a bit brighter and hoping the staples with the magnetic polepieces will...

Spectrum analysis on three different Guild electrics

I set up a spectrum analyser plug-in in Logic to test the effect of different vibratos on the sound (see here) and I thought I might as well use it to look at some of my other Guilds, so I plugged in the following: 2001 Starfire III-90 2000 M65 Custom Shop 1989 X160 Guitars are recorded...

My experimental data on how different vibratos change the sound

Here are the results! If you need the context, check this thread. THE EQUIPMENT: 1 x Duesenberg Vibrola Short 1 x Mastery OMV-P Vibrato 1 x Dearmond M55 sacrificial guitar for UK£70, with the same bridge arrangement as my M65. 3 x the cheapest string sets I could find, GHS 10-38 - a strange...

    NSGD

New sacrificial guitar day! I got this unfortunate Dearmond M55 for UK£70 to answer my own Qs about how different vibratos affect the sound. To be scientific I have three new sets of GHS strings to test it with. Please excuse the bad phone pics and appreciate the way it was strung by the...
