Pat Metheny used to have a few Guilds, here on a 1979 album and in a Guild add as well:

He played that D-40C live, so not just for the Guild add, here in 1980 in Germany (I actually think Guild took a picture from that very concert for their add, see the cymbals):

I always did admire that jumbo he had on the new chatauqua album. And his electric 12 string work is always mesmerizing. I asked him about the Starfire xii back in the 80's and he said he liked it even more than his Ibanez artist 12

How about "almost playing"

levitt_mcclure.jpg

Standing: playing a Guild; seated: playing a (ugh) Gibson
The only decent song on this album (IMHO) is Empty Boxes, the guitars absolutely mesmerized me, back then in 1969 and still today! Their voices are mediocre, can hardly understand many of the lyrics without the Google, the album is meh, but Empty Boxes is a gem. No other version holds a candle!

Slide guitarist Ellen McIllwane, who passed recently in hospice, Age 75. RIP Ellen...

EDIT: I see she was posted at #975, missed that. In any event, she passed late last month.

Even more interesting is the rebuilt saddle. Does she play slide exlusively? That would explain - while she holds the slide in an angle that is not 90 degrees.

Whaddya think - an acquaintance of mine gave me about 30 years ago a vinyl box - 1986 version of Nick Drake - Fruit Tree - I remember I tried to listen to it but found it boring - I still have vinyl record player in full working condition - I'm not going to listen to all 4 LP:s just to see if there's something interesting - so for those of you who know his music - where to start ?

Pink Moon I liked as there is no string section crushing the guitar playing like on his earlier record. Great guitar tone throughout on Pink, and maybe a piano track on the title track is the only other instrument on that album. I know that song is old and tired due to commercial, but there are some gems on that album. Things behind the sun is brilliant. Another song, Road, a crowning achievement in acoustic guitar progression. For me, his greatest creation. My guess is he wanted to do more with Road, but wasn’t sure how to elaborate or where to go. But it’s pure genius in it’s almost “hesitant, innocent state.

OK - nice guitar playing - but I could only understand few words here and there - that may be one thing I disliked back then. There was no interenet to search words. And after Dylan - Donovan - Simon & Garfunkel and countless other storytellers who wrapped their words in music - I might be slightly picky about whether or not the lyrics are clearly delivered . . .

Gimme another - please.
