it ended up getting a rebrace to correct a belly bulge. Bottom line and $ 700 later

Mine's developed a belly bulge, too. What causes this? And I assume the $700 was for all repair work, not just the rebrace, right? How much was the rebrace?

Thanks,
Jason

A belly buldge is caused by the guitar getting hot and the glue lets go. This causes high action and sometimes results in an unnecesarry neck set when a rebrace is the proper cure(acording to my luthier) The rebrace was around $ 400 if I remember right. Before he did the job he asked me if I wanted him to tap tune it or go back with how it was. At the risk of losing vintage value I gave him the go ahead to tap tune it ( put the braces where they sound best rather than factory placement). It turned out magnificent. Everyone comments on the terrific sound of this instrument. Coupled with the classy look it turned out to be a great guitar worth(to me) three times the money I have in it.
Guardman-The 83 D 55 on e bay looks really good, nice creamy looking rosewood. Also nice pics of your Guild collection.

UCP is the User Control Panel at the top of the web page, Harry. From there, you can poke around and change your signature and your avatar.

UCP = User Control Panel

UCP-ScreenShot003.jpg

Click there, then click ob Profile on the left hand side, then click Edit Signature.

There you can add your name and gear list and it will appear under each post so not wearing your finger down any further. You need it for picking, something.

Welcome to LTG Harry.

Harry, thanks for the info. Boy.. I better start socking away some money!! :( I just noticed a few days ago a slight curve to the top below the bridge - it's not severe, but if it's a sign of a brace coming loose, I guess I better take care of it, sooner than later.

Yup - got it yesterday - not insured - no signature required! It was in good condition. Afew more "cracks" or "checkering" in the finish on top than was shown in the pics - but sounds great.

Will post pics later this evening! :D

Yikes! That's no way to ship an instrument, especially an acoustic, and of this value, too!!

It plays great, looks great - but I guess I'm just anal about hairline cracks in the finish - actually, I'm a perfectionist - probably shouldn't have purchased this. You really can't see them unless you look at a certain angle - but think I'm gonna put this one on ebay and keep looking. Oh well :x

Guys, before anybody gets too excited about "bellying tops", there is a slight amount of belly that is supposed to be built into a top. Just as there is a radius to a saddle and a fretboard. None of these components are supposed to be perfectly flat.
