I'm pulling for you too, Georgia!!

Just out of curiosity, when you guys say 'heavy guitar', just how heavy is heavy? Six pounds, Seven??

For comparison's sake, I weighed all my acoustic guitars on a *bathroom scale.
*not accurate by any stretch, but simply used for comparative measure.

GAD G212e Mahogany Dred - 5 lbs.
Taylor 855ce Rosewood Jumbo - 5-1/2 lbs.
Guild D55e Rosewood Dred (Tacoma built) - 4-3/4 lbs.
Taylor Custom Gruhn GAce Rosewood (OM style) - 4-1/2 lbs.
GAD 50 Rosewood Dred - 4-1/4 lbs.
Washburn D10S12 Laminated 'Hog Dred - 4 lbs.
Washburn D11s Solid Ash Dred - 4-7/8 lbs.

OK - when you say "limited" - what do you mean? (you can PM me if you wish). First rule - NEVER buy from a dept store or big box mart! (Just as you wouldn;t buy a guitar there).

$300-400 or less.

West,
Might not be what you're looking for, but we bought one from WalMart a couple of years ago for under $200.00. Works great for us amateurs still working to determine a star from a planet!

I actually did have a Walmart Meade telescope once. I knew of Meade, I guess I was just wondering if there was a better brand for the money?

I have owned 8 Meade telescopes (USA made) - but the ones sold in WalMart are all farmed out to China and are kinda like the Guild GAD series - but worse as you can pay the same online and get a MUCH better product.. Just as you shouldn;t buy a guitar at WalMart, probably not a good idea to get a telescope there. The difference in quality between a Walmart Meade and a Meade (or Celestron) bought from a Telescope store is vastly different.

I would recommend going to www.telescope.com - this is the Orion Telescope website - they are TERRIFIC for both amateurs and beginners alike - and their products are FIRST RATE and run the full gamut.

Maybe a small Celestron - if you get an astronomical mag they have lots advertised. All depends how much you want to spend and what she wants to use it for. Really good book on choosing is Star Ware by Philip S. Harrington - 4th edition, $21.95.

WOW....congratulations Star....you're gonna love your D55, they are awesome sounding guitars. We'll be waiting for pictures when she arrives. Oh and thanks much to you and Dave for the great telescope information. Especially the part about there being a difference between a Walmart Meade and one bought from a reputable dealer.

Congrats! It was a bit noisy in the store when I played it last week, but I could tell (IMHO) it was a good one. I'll look for your review and pics.

Congrats star! I went by the store today to see if it was still there and, when it wasn't, I was hoping you'd ended up with it.

Enjoy!

I couldn't find the 79 D 55 at Gryphon but I have a 79 I bought off e-bay a few years ago. It has Brazillian sides and Indian rosewood back- any body got a clue? Anyway it was sold as in excellent condition but took it in for a refret and it ended up getting a rebrace to correct a belly bulge. Bottom line and $ 700 later I got a great axe with around $ 2000 in it. It is really heavy due to an enormous neck block, but looks, sounds and plays wonderfull. I wouldnt trade it for a stack of Gibsons ( which I also happen to have ). Wish I had known about Guilds sooner. I live in the Mississippi Delta where everybody plays strats or peavys or Martins. I am a days drive from any selection. E-bay is a risky solution. I have 3 I got online one way or another, though and all turned out to be good. Stores are the best.

Harry, welcome to the LTG forum! It's great that you've kept an old Guild rockin'! :) Many of us around here have a great appreciation for these axes.

I bought one of my Guilds in a store, and the other two from folks here on the LTG forum.

Welcome, and enjoy!
