You guys got me reconsidering purchasing this guitar! SHAME ON YOU!

I would really like to see this fine instrument end up in the home of a Forum member. That's why I posted it here in the first place.

I know nothing of the mechanics involved in doing a neck reset, but in my book this one has no need at this time (and probably for a long time). When I played the guitar the thought of an impending neck reset never entered my mind.

That said, about 10 yrs ago Gryphon did a stellar neck reset and refret on my '74 D-40. Would that be a lesser technical problem than on a D-55? I don't know...

I should also state that Gryphon would not accept the job of replacing the pickguard on my Tacoma D-55 with a black one supplied to me by Fender. Just wouldn't do the job as they felt it was, "Too risky to the finish." I took the guitar and pickguard to my techie in San Francisco (Gary Brawer Stringed Instrument Repair) and 5 minutes and $15 later he handed me back my D-55 complete with the new pickguard on it.

Gryphon Stringed Instruments is my favorite guitar shop on the planet (followed closely by Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island and Guitar Showcase in San Jose). Frank Ford is quite possibly the finest luthier on the planet. The shop always takes a conservative approach to things because the last thing they want is a dissatisfied customer.

This D-55 is ready for a happy home.

You are required by LTG membership rules (right, everyone, right...?) to file a full report, including sound samples if possible, to this forum.

;)

Congratulations!

Yeah, well - still having probs with my paypal acct - so it's not as done a deal as I thought! Soooo, bottom line is that it's STILL available - and I won;t be mad at anyone if they buy it before me - may take a while for me to fix this situation! :(

Just out of curiosity, when you guys say 'heavy guitar', just how heavy is heavy? Six pounds, Seven??

I never thought to weigh the guitar, so I guess I would just say that the '80 D-55 was relatively heavier than most of my other guitars. I think a '70s F-50 might have tipped the scales the other way. ;)

I never thought about it much either, until I went to the sporting goods store and bought a digital fish scale for $30 bucks.
Now I can weigh my guitars and my Small Mouth Bass catch!

My '68 Paul weighs 8lbs 15ozs, for example. My buddy's '55 Junior weighs 6 something, so does my swamp-ash bodied strato-mo-caster. Tonight, I'll weigh the D-35 (for Guild content!).

Starhopper, I'm sorry. Keep yer' chin up! There are other D55s out there, plus now you don't have to sleep on the porch this Fall!!

Hey Hop,

Sorry Star, there will definately be another. We'll be on the lookout for one on your behalf.

Since the D55 is no longer an issue, mind if I take your thread elsewhere for a moment? I need some advice. Mrs. West has a wanting a GOOD starter telescope. Without any experience, and on a limited budget, where does one start?

OK - when you say "limited" - what do you mean? (you can PM me if you wish). First rule - NEVER buy from a dept store or big box mart! (Just as you wouldn;t buy a guitar there).
