there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable, friendly people on here!
And then.... there are the Moderators :)

Welcome.

what is the best way to clean these beauties?? Not to sure on the paint! Damp rag?? Microfiber cloth??

A 100% cotton cloth and elbow grease won't hurt anything. Dampen the cloth a little if you need to. If you can get results you can live with with out "polish" then you don't have to go down the rabbit hole of "which polish?" and how to test that it won't peel the paint.

Your deluxe looks like it's maple - is it just a maple cap? That one's gotta feel more substantial, no?

The only thing I usually clean my guitars with is a clean cloth, unless they're really covered in fingerprints and I'm trying to take photos of them in which case the Naptha comes out.

The fretboards, on the other hand, get bore oil (Fret Doctor) and Gorgomyte every time I change strings.

Welcome jgui921. Just reading this now as I’m not really and electric guy. You came to the right place. Best guitar forum on the interweb. I’d love to see some of the other Guilds you have.

Hello everyone, and thanks for welcoming me once again! I was going to put some more pictures up of the guitars I do have but is that ok if their not all related to the thread title?? Sorry I'm just getting back, just been a pretty busy the last couple of days! I got a majority of them all cleaned up and lots of pictures which I will probably post sometime tomorrow if I don't get caught up with a bunch of other stuff throughout my day lol! I appreciate you all for being such amazing people!

We LOVE photos!! Maybe start a new thread, in Miscellaneous, as an introduction and then inventory your guitars for us. That would work. People do that a lot. "This is me, this is what I do, these are my guitars. I've been playing for this long." That type of thing. I wouldn't bury the photos in this thread with a specific model as the topic. How does that sound?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Congrats on the X-79. Cool guitars. I have 3 but can only find pics of the front of my black and candy apple red ones, at the moment. And only a photo of the back of the 3rd X-79, which has a natural finish. I've had these about 20 years now. The red one was first one I got. The black one is the first version when they were putting "Chesterfield" headstocks on them. I think they put those necks on the first 100 or so. This one is #82. The one in natural was a black sparkle in very rough condition that I bought for the parts to restore #82 back to factory specs. I stripped the paint off the beat up black sparkle and re-did it in natural with a light cherry stain.

The red and black one have the DiMarzio made Guild XR-7 HBs. I think they sound great, myself. Very clean cleans, but they also distort well.

Thanks, Jgui921. I'll have to get the natural one out of storage or find the photo of the front to post it. I stripped the beat up black sparkle paint off of it and was surprised to find that the body was one solid piece of poplar with some very nice grain, but the wood was so light that the grain didn't show well. So, I did 2 coats of a cherry stain to bring out the grain and then put a Tung oil varnish on top of that. The mahogany neck I refinished with pure Tung oil. The headstock I had to reshape a bit, as the previous owner had busted the longer point off.

Hi! Sorry for thread-dredging, but this post is what brought me here so it seems appropriate. :)
I'm taking delivery this afternoon of a 1982 X-79 - I lusted after one of these when they were new (I was 15 in '81) and finally got the chance to pick one up!
I've been around some other forums for a long time, mostly before social media took over. Anyway, nice to discover this little corner of the internet!

Welcome to LTG! Looking forward to reading your NGD report when it arrives! I got an X-79 several months ago and you can read about it here:

So a not-so-nice NGD after all. :( When it arrived the tip of the headstock was broken off in the case. It looks repairable, there's enough solid wood around the tuning head.
I did give it a brief play, and the neck is amazing. The seller did start the refund process, but I'm not sure I want to do that since I mainly got it to play, not to trade. I know it's a common problem, how does something like this affect the value if it's professionally repaired?

Sorry about the not-so-nice NGD. I am always worried about opening up a the case of a shipped guitar and finding something like that. Really hard to tell regarding impact on value. Pictures would help the group get a better idea of the required repair and maybe provide some thoughts.
