With the neck pretty much finalized, it's time to work on those transition areas. While lumpy mashed potatoes are perfectly fine, not so much in a heel.

Another foreshadowing post. I culled through my stash of koa for a possible ukulele build for a former student. Also found more spruce bracewood that I'd forgotten about (the seller had thrown in the bracewood to fill out the box. Sadly, retired now.)

Are those roughly about 1/4” ? Much variation in the thickness ?

They are rough resawn, only about 3-4mm, an 1/8”. These are small boards, suitable only for soprano ukes (or head plates, etc.)

Obsessing over tiny details. Trying to get the transition into the headstock. I don't know if you can see any difference between the two pics below, but it's about 10 minutes of filing and sanding.
Many times it's the fingertips that do the seeing.

My guess is the bottom picture is the one the finger tips like best.
I believe my old machinist mentor told me the fingertips can detect a .001.
