Turns out that the lacquer on the soundboard of The Mark has dried a bit and has cracked at the joints of some of the repairs that Tom did 6 years ago when rebuilding that baby. Not worrying about it at all, and just playing it, but it just goes to show that NCL does change over the years.

Anyway, love that beastie. It was unbelievable the work that Tom did to revive that dumpster find. It looks like the picture album that Tom used to have on his site has gone away (and the pictures from the thread that documented the restore are gone as well). Too bad; I should've uploaded them to my computer for posterity.

Put some EJ22 mediums on the Tacoma so it’s getting a little play time this morning.

I took off the clear pickguard and added a tortoise/celluloid one I had. I think it's less ugly now.

Took my newly refinished D 46 with us on our annual anniversary cabin getaway. Single digit temps and snow on the ground, but I put in some time working out some James Taylor songs. My wife braved a session in the outdoor hot tub... NO THANK YOU. I stayed in where it was warm!

That's a killer guitar right there! I played one with a red spruce top and it was far louder than any J-45 I've played.
Thank you sir. It's by far the loudest, bassiest and most articulate slope D I've ever played GG. I started to post and old video of me playing a Gibson J45 Custom last night here on LTG, but I couldn't make it post and had to get Krysh to delete it. The Collings CJ and the several J45s I've played aren't even close. I'd like to play an Orpheum Slope D and compare.

Hey, @MLBob , what's the deal with the sign on the fireplace? Do you rent out the cabin (and not allow fires during that period)? Or, is your memory just bad? :D

Since I got my new Lewitt 440 microphone yesterday, I'll be playing all my guitars through it today. I have decent mics already, but you know how that goes.

Would be interesting to know which guitar you thought matched up best with that mic. If its possible to choose.

We often rent cabins in the Hocking Hills in SE Ohio. ... there are a gazillion of 'em. It's a huge part of the local economy in that area. We do a variety of get-away trips to different properties, and we have been to this particular one a number of times. That sign says, "Fireplace out of use April 15 - Oct 1st." ... so we were good 👍
I suppose the owner/ rental company ("Cabins by the Caves") has a reason. Most likely based on the usage/need for the season, and their schedule of maintenance and flue cleaning to keep everyone safe after the late fall & winter rentals - the period when I expect the fireplaces get the most use. Many rentals have made the switch to gas logs, so it's usually not an issue - but not this one. In addition, most of the cabins have some sort of outdoor fire-pit for year-round use.
Thought about a side trip over to Bidwell, OH to see Chris' Acorn House shop, but it was an hour drive from where we stayed. Someday.

Richard P. Is making positive steps everyday from hip surgery and thought I would play the 1999 Finesse I got from him. Got to be enough good Karma in this Finesse to propel him through the next seven days.
Just a joy to play and hear.

Yes, I once bought that very same Finesse from Richard; actually twice! And always loved its sound. A real subtle build on a dred body.

Rich:
I have read all your posts about this very guitar and one thing you said was that each time you owned this guitar something different stood-out about it. I am finding that true each time it comes to it's turn in the rotation. Richard was correct, "simple elegance."
