nice moves
Thanks ... I been practicing ... those speaker drops will make speaker and chassis ins and outs a lot simpler and I'm sure the people in the maintenance dept at Zaczamp will appreciate you thinking of them.

In my avatar, that big gray speaker on the right is a Bell & Howell-badged Jensen P12N ... formerly 16 ohms, I had the voice coil replaced reducing its impedance to 8 ohms ... this is a better view of the 12" speaker referred to above (shown mated with the original ceramic Jensen C8S on the left):

That P12N was originally sold to the Navy in the '50s as part of a movie projector sound system and I have another one on the way. The corresponding Weber dupe 12A150 is $195; the ultimate in chime ... and you're welcome

btw the 8" is the CTS, the 12" is the Pyle.

Okeydokey. Like cj said, I still have a couple of alnico Jensens, so shoot me a pm if you're interested. You could also drag it to a music store (or a Guitar Center  ) and plug it into a bunch of cabs to get an idea.

Just a small irony but if you click the link to my eBay speaker and check the connections, those were made by a company called ... yes .... Bulgin who, then as now, specialized in air- and water-tight bulkhead electrical connections. The dust covers on these speakers have rubber gaskets and the fittings are threaded. Because it's easily replaced, the cone was considered sacrificial. These speakers are old JAN stuff; Joint Army Navy ... the late '40s/early '50s DoD standards that all electronics being sold to the government had to meet. Especially important in tubes; say hi to a quad of early '50s military / JAN Hytron 6V6s ... smokey, meaty, crunchy tone:

Hello there, ladies, pleased to meet you. ( they are ladies, right)
Well ... if we're gonna impute sexuality to vacuum tubes and considering that it's the tube that has the <ahem> things sticking out and the fact that the things that stick out 'mate' (in a manly way) with the tube sockets that 'receive' the tube's pins .......... either way, the tubes in the pic aren't going to be offended ... at their age, they're very mature .... secure in their identities

Hi Zac: another early re-badged Jensen P12N on eBay Seller says he thinks it's 16 ohms, I think he's right. The auction has a pic of the large magnet. The BIN/BO at $99 isn't much of a deal ... it will probably go around a few more times.

Nice work on that one. But whatever happened to the "fishscale grillcloth"?
Long gone ... the amp was DOA and the grillcloth had a hole in it matching up with the hole in the 12" speaker right behind it. It's just as well; the stuff is made out of a plastic that oxides to the point of becoming brittle like the old spun fiberglass ... touch it and you get little pieces of it embedded in your skin ... they don't call it 'fishscale' for nothing.

Okay. I think I'll do new grillcloth when I get around to replacing the speakers. I did see the link Coastie gave in another thread with some nice choices.

If (if) you are going to replace the speakers and the grillcloth, now is the time to consider replacing the baffle ... not less than 9-ply Baltic birch (not Carpathian Spruce) like this stuff ... from the guy I buy from on eBay. I don't know what you might be able to scavenge from local cabinet shops ... the stuff at the lumber yard is no good ... too wet and too many knots. If you mess with this, you'll need some of these. .... known as Ferlingheimer screws in New Zealand ... the double threads keep the stud from turning when you're tightening down the nuts from inside. There are also longer ones around; depending on the thickness of the new speaker rim, you might need to counter-sink these into the face of the new baffle.

Not saying you have to do this but particleboard softens, flexes, and disintegrates over time ... and no, particleboard wasn't used for its tone-enhancing properties. One option might be cabinet-grade MDO ... but before you make up your mind, you ought to cruise Clark Amplification, Victoria Amps, Carr, Top Hat ... and the other boutique amp makers ... see what they are using. If they're using MDO ok ... but if they aren't ... I mean don't bother fooling with it if you can't get the right stuff. Good luck. J

Z-man, a word of caution.

If you're planning on taking the Chunder 1 on your next tour, you'd be well advised to consider using conventional grillcloth.
Industrial-strength, those radio grillcloths are not !!

This 'ere one looks particularly sharp ........... #67 reversed.
