I've been out of town, and out of touch all week. It's really great to come back and see this development. All of the great progress at New Hartford will go on!

Glad to hear Ren will continue to influence with his renowned master luthier talents. I understand his original agreement with FMIC was that he did not have to fully relocate. I'm guessing he'll keep the Montana ranch; his (other) passion for firearms doesn't seem to fit the California political culture...

Rural California has a lot more in common with Texas that it does with LA, I've heard...

I visit SoCal on occasion, usually the occasion is the NAMM show, but I find that most of the people there are very down to earth and not at all what you would expect from the reputation of the place. It reminds me more of Oklahoma, or, as mentioned, Texas, than of some over the top, avant garde playground. As is the case with so much in life, the handful of extreme characters get all the attention and shape public opinion about everyone in that place.

As CMG is monitoring the posts out here perhaps they will chime in when things are a little more settled. I would expect the recent AP orders to resume assuming things were going well, but beyond that your guess is as good as mine.

Would anybody care to speculate on whether or not CMG will be taking custom orders?

It would be great if they did. But this question is very premature. At first they should be focusing on bringing a strong staff together and getting regular production models right. The occasional GSR as a way of working out the high end (as was done relatively early in New Hartford) might be a good idea, but individual custom orders should be a low priority for now.

I doubt that even they know at this point in the game. The first thing they'll have to do is ramp up production and try to keep the brand available without interruption. When CBS Musical Instruments sold out to their employees and became FMIC they were kept hopping for a while as they got production established, etc. I suspect that this will be similar.

Sure. My Magic 8 Ball says "Try Again Later".

Common sense suggests it is premature to ask about building Guilds "to order" when they have yet to build any Guild, let alone a Guild to any kind of factory spec.

The Cordoba web site says the following about customers trying to order direct from the factory:

Unfortunately, we do not sell directly to customers at this time. We can put you in contact with your closest dealer so that you can play the guitar before purchasing. Please visit www.cordobaguitars.com/dealers to find the dealer nearest you.

I can't find any evidence that they can or will accept a custom order for a Cordoba branded classical which adds to the suggestion that custom ordered Guilds are in the distant future.

I don't have common sense?

I don't think anyone was suggesting that Hat. Given the buying and selling spree I've been on lately, I'd be far more likely to accuse myself of that! I do agree that it's far too early to tell what's going to happen in Oxnard, but so far I've got a generally good feeling.

Hey TC. Good to hear from you. Those deals you've been making are pretty cagey.

That's not faint praise from a guy with a collection like yours! Heck, I don't even own an instrument that would necessitate a barf bag for Coastie.

Speculation is difficult and generally serves no purpose, but I can't imagine that the Guild line will change much as Cordoba and Guild, for the most part, have two very different product lines. Along with the hiring of Ren, it appears to me that Cordoba likes what they see in Guild and intends to keep the Guild brand moving forward ad it has been during recent times. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part, which to me serves no purpose. :witless:

MAJOR agreement!! It looks like it's gonna be not a whole lot of change. But it's WAY too soon to tell. AND it serves no purpose to speculate. I'll just sit here and wait and see and ..... THEN, we'll tear it apart!! That's the SPIRIT!! :encouragement:

Mind that Cordoba Guitars (the Guitar company/brand) does not intend to buy Guild, it is it's parent company Cordoba Music Group (CMG) who signed the letter of intend.
Cordoba is just one of currently 4 and soon 5 music related product brands owned by CMG.

My apologies if my response came across as anything resembling a personal attack. The whole "custom Guild" is a sore point with me, in part because many of the people asking for custom Guilds seem to be the people who thought the MSRP on NH Guilds was ridiculously high but chose not to believe a custom Guild is likely to cost more than a factory standard one. But I was wrong to express my general annoyance in a way that seemed directed at you personally, so I apologize.

I will note that a source of information about how the parent might run a second guitar line is to look at the way the parent runs the line it already owns. Having become an instant expert in how to run a guitar factory, having toured several and watched a lot of videos, I know there are things that have to happen on the production line to support custom builds. Since we have no confirmation that Guilds will be built in a facility not currently operated by CMG and no denial the Guild and Cordoba will build guitars in the same facility it seems reasonable to me to presume that the "custom policy" will be the same for Cordoba and Guild.

I can see this is going to get confusing. There were times when we needed to distinguish between Guild and the parent company owner and with Cordoba being the obvious shorthand for both the parent company and a "sibling brand" I'm sure there will be confusion down the road.

I look forward to the moment with the letter of intent becomes a signed purchase agreement and we can comment on the details ;-)

Much like Guild is not being offered for sale by Fender Guitars, but by the parent company, FMIC.
