I would have to agree with you having lived in Southern California for quite a few years before leaving. In 25 words or less the people that live in Southern California are NOT the people that I can remember having as very good friends out there at the time. You are now getting people from all over the world versus when I was there primarily people from every small and large town east of the state. Don't get me wrong I have plenty of good friends from these other countries that remain good friends to this day. However California in today's world is totally based on your net worth as is the value of your friendship. jim in Maine

Really, has CMG proposed to purchase any more than the brand name Guild? (I would presume the right to copy previous models but I do not know that.) Do they get anything besides a logo? When FMIC took over Guild, didn't they get the factory and continued to build Guilds in they manner they were build before with the equipment and personnel. Then at the time they felt appropriate, they began to move production. Seems to me that this purchase is a great deal different.

Read what is written in the two press releases, anything else is speculation so far.

I'll add to what Ralf said by saying that they have bought a large amount of the tooling from the New Hartford plant, along with the old Westerly apparatus for making arch backs. Now they need a factory in Oxnard big enough to put it all in, and I imagine that is going to take some time.

Your survey goes to 11!!

The 7s are ok, the 9s are fun, I don't mess with the 11s. So, I'll vote for a flatted 11 if that makes it a 10th. A wise man used to say that communication is key, but if you have too many keys on your key ring your pants will sag and you'll walk funny.

Ok, I re-read the articles, I had read before. All I saw was that they purchased the brand and "related assets" which could mean anything. The hiring of Ron Ferguson could be for any number of reasons. I am not trying to be pessimistic, only attempting to be clear about what has occurred. Also, I agree wholeheartedly with jswu that speculation serves a purpose.

Well, you buy the Guild brand, the tooling AND Renn Ferguson?

Count me happy.

Hire some/all of the New Hartford people?

Color me ecstatic. ;-)

Gotta be.
I saw you ecstatic before, and it was very close to this.

They didn't buy any of this so that they could take it out to Oxnard and bury it. CMG intends to make money with this brand. They have stated that they intend to build both acoustic and electric instruments in the US and they bought rested assets, which probably means spare parts, design rights, existing supplies, etc. I don't see any reason for alarm in any of this. As th=o what they do with the Guild brand and as to their degree of success; these things remain to be seen and they are dependent upon not only CMG but also the consumer, for, in the long term, the fate of any company lies with their customers.

The decisions that CMG makes from this point forward is out of my hands and my policy is not to worry about what is beyond my control. If they offer a decent product at a reasonable price I'll consider buying from them. If not, it's goodbye; at least for the time being. There's nothing new with any of this, it's SOP for me. At one time I was a loyal Gibson customer but I haven't owned a Gibson in over 20 years and could not care any less about them as a brand. If they begin to offer consistency and value once again you can bet that there'll be a Gibson or two in my collection soon thereafter.

Idle speculation makes little sense to me and I can't imagine serving any valuable purpose beyond the value of any feedback that CMG takes away from reading these posts. If the speculation gets too crazy you can bet that they will take us, collectively, less seriously.
