So I'll have this guitar for a week tomorow. My impressions after a week?
I LOVE it.
It's got the best of everything. It's thin like my SF4, but hollow and twangy like my X170T. Its soooo light as to feel almost cheap, but plays like the quality instrument that it is. The pickups are head and shoulders above the Fender HB1s in my X170. They're not in the realm of vintage HB1s, but I do have a set that would fit. Hmmm...
There is something about this guitar that makes it look/feel small. It's not. It's got the same overall dimensions as my SF4, but it's so much lighter and just feels smaller. I like heavy guitars, having cut my teeth on my ash S300AD, and this thing feels like it's not even there.
Part of the love affair I think might have to do with the lighter strings on it. My X170T is set up for 11s, and it's not happy with anything less. I prefer 10s on my non-solid-electrics, and this has either 10s or 9s on it, so it feels a bit slinkier. It came with new strings on it and I'm too set in my ways to waste a set of new strings.
The G strings doesn't like to stay in tune, so when I change the strings I'll lube the nut and see if that helps. The tuners are nice and tight.
It feeds back much quicker than my X170T. I attribute that to the X170T having a soundpost where this has none. Not an issue for me - just an observation.
I've yet to play a Guild guitar that dissapoints. Even the GAD acoustics I've played have been great. This sexy redhead is no exception.
The only problem I have with this guitar is the same problem I have with my X170T: I don't have a '62 blonde Bassman to play them through!
