How could you not be happy with those pics. They are stunning. But I'm with you on having trouble shooting guitars. I try different light, backgrounds, etc., and while I like some shots, I know I can always do better.

That said, I don't know how you can do better, because that guitar is beautiful in every shot you've showed up.

Heh - thanks. I guess I'm just a perfectionist.

I'm confused. Is this a NEW guitar or an OLD guitar? I mean, is it a reissue? I missed this info somewhere...

It is a 1998 reissue model of the Starfire III.

If this was a 70's model in this condition, I'd be a LOT more excited. :)
I see, thanks. It looks just like my '66 but for the pure white binding. Paint color and texture looks very vintage style. I wanted the address of your time machine..

It looks great though, enjoy it.

Re: Pics of the new Redhead SFIII

So after playing it all day, I don't know that I'd say it's my favorite color (I still love the blonds!), but I love the tone. I didn't buy it because it was red, I bought it because it's mahogany, and it delivers that in spades. Rich warm full tone on the neck pickup that sounds nicer to my ears than my X170T. Plugged into a nice clean amp, this thing is yummy.

The Guildsby is much nicer to use than the one on my X170. I need to look into that. Maybe a new spring on the orange monster is in order? I do have 11s on the X170, so maybe that's why. I'm not sure what's on here yet. Might be 10s.

It's got a great feel. Much lighter than any of my other Guilds. That really surprised me when I first picked it up. Something about the color and the shape makes it look smaller than my other Guilds, but it's the same size.

My plan was to get this, possibly sell off the X170T and get a Gretsch. Now I'm thinking of trying some TV Jones in my Guild X170T to see if that gets me where I want to be. I love the X170T - it just doesn't deliver the Setzer-esqe tones I need from it. This one doesn't either, but psychologically that's OK, because it's not thick and orange. :)

Those are Grotworthy, droolworthy, "I hate you and I mean that with all do respect and affection" worthy. Oh My. That one more than holds its own in that three-way beauty contest you've got going on there.

Heh - thanks. I tend to only buy pristine examples, or as close to it as possible. I dislike the idea of someone else's mojo in my guitars. :)

Re: Pics of the new Redhead SFIII

Qvart got me wondering about the pickups, so I pulled 'em. Are these Semour Duncans? I've never seen pickups like these in any of my Guilds. They look like vintage HB1s without the solder terminals. They sound better to my ears than the Fender-esqe HB1s.

In this pic you can see the finish scuffing from the bridge. The bottom of the bridge has was feels like friction tape on it. Eww... Gonna have to buff that out.

My other 90's Guild pickups look like this:

And of course the vintage HB1s look like this:

In other news, it looks pretty hot with the pick guard off!

Simply wow! That's the colour we (I) was looking for!

Now you are going to have to describe in detail the difference in all three guitars!

Thanks for sharing,
Tomek

As per the man himself (Hans) via PM, these are Semour Duncan stuffed HB1s. Cool!

Well, the color may not be quite accurate, GAD, but that is one immaculate guitar. Yumm!

The double-sided acid-free scrapbooking squares will hold the bridge down and prevent the scuffing. Just make sure that you have the string guage and intonation dialed in before you use them.

I showed my '06 Savoy to a friend the other day and he commented about those "grotesque Guild G-knobs."

Oh I dunno. They look pretty fine on that red Mahogany geetar in the pics!

It's part of authentic Guild! I'm not changing mine anytime soon either.

You know it's funny, those Guild knobs are hideous compared to many others, but on certain of my Guilds they simply MUST be there. I actually pulled them from my SF4 to put on my S300A-D because the S300 looked stupid without them, while I thought the SF4 looked OK with Gibson knobs.

Re: Pics of the new Redhead SFIII - Pulled the P'ups!

I have been playing Guilds since the mid 1960's and I am very fond of the feel of the knobs. They may be a little cheesy but they have a firm grip and since that is the type I was raised on any other knob feels odd. I have the most problem handling the smooth clear '50s knobs with the locking screw.

I think Guild began to use those standard knobs starting in the late 1950's. I beleive DeArmond provided the knobs. My old Aristocrat has clean knobs without the G shield in the silver cap. I had also owned a M65 that came with the standard knobs without the Guild shield on teh silver cap. That was how I had seed DeArmond knobs in some advertisments. Hans may be able to tell us more about the history of the standard Guild knobs. I think DeArmond sold a variety of accessories including knobs.

In the 1950's they had a variety of styles and in the 1980's they had a variety of different styles. In the 60's, 70's 90's and 00 the knobs were the classic Guild style albeit they did change the way the numbers were annotated on the knobs.
