Someone is parting out a Starfire on Ebay. Same pickups as yours.

I really didn't need to, but I dropped the cash on the knobs.

People that do this need to suffer. It pains me to see a perfectly good guitar gutted for parts like that.

Still, it's cool you got your knobs. :)

True, but there's something wrong with the finish. Hmmm...

Well, it seems to be the going rate. I think I just got tired of thinking about buying some. Thanks for the offer too, but I don't really dig those original S300 knobs. And I do like the G-shields. But I'm a bit biased. ;) Now I don't have to try to negotiate keeping the knobs from the '96.

The only reason I offered is because I hate them myself. :)

I'm with you though. The last few sets of mint knobs I've seen I've said YES!, then thought, man, that's a lot of money for cheap plastic knobs. Someday I too will likely grow tired of thinking about them. :)

That would have pushed me over the edge too. No doubt about it.

So I'll have this guitar for a week tomorow. My impressions after a week?

I LOVE it.

It's got the best of everything. It's thin like my SF4, but hollow and twangy like my X170T. Its soooo light as to feel almost cheap, but plays like the quality instrument that it is. The pickups are head and shoulders above the Fender HB1s in my X170. They're not in the realm of vintage HB1s, but I do have a set that would fit. Hmmm...

There is something about this guitar that makes it look/feel small. It's not. It's got the same overall dimensions as my SF4, but it's so much lighter and just feels smaller. I like heavy guitars, having cut my teeth on my ash S300AD, and this thing feels like it's not even there.

Part of the love affair I think might have to do with the lighter strings on it. My X170T is set up for 11s, and it's not happy with anything less. I prefer 10s on my non-solid-electrics, and this has either 10s or 9s on it, so it feels a bit slinkier. It came with new strings on it and I'm too set in my ways to waste a set of new strings. :)

The G strings doesn't like to stay in tune, so when I change the strings I'll lube the nut and see if that helps. The tuners are nice and tight.

It feeds back much quicker than my X170T. I attribute that to the X170T having a soundpost where this has none. Not an issue for me - just an observation.

I've yet to play a Guild guitar that dissapoints. Even the GAD acoustics I've played have been great. This sexy redhead is no exception.

The only problem I have with this guitar is the same problem I have with my X170T: I don't have a '62 blonde Bassman to play them through! :)

I had what I thought was a '61: biege Tolex piggyback with a matching 1 X 12" cab (not a JBL); brown faceplate w a presence control.

Absolutely THE Telecaster amp for my ears.

I think I traded it for a Rivera hundred duo-twelve that sounded wonderful and had all the headroom in the world. Also felt like it was bolted to the floor. When will I ever learn? :?

Kryshomon,

I'm not really a professor in the German use of the term. In Germany and the rest of Oyropa, I'd be a Lecturer.

back to the OP, yes Starfire III's are great, really light and lively. I'm not too into the Florentine cutaway, so I might score a DE-400 to get the same deal with a Venetian cutaway (and i think bigger body). I really like the Guild mini-humbuckers too

Very nice get, GAD! I have been very close to pulling the trigger on an SF-2 or 3 for a while now. I have had much "GAS" lately with the purchase of a Bluesbird, X-170T, SF-4 and D-40, not to mention my Peavey, Fender and Roland amps, all within the last 6 months. To be fair, most were purchased with money from the sale of other guitars and amps (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!), but my wife is still getting very tired of my "GAS"...can't understand why it flows so freely. Maybe cutting back on fiber will help.

Enjoy your new toy!

Ah, so it's a health issue... Well, we all know how important fiber is to one's diet, ergo...
per doctor's orders the fiber (and the GAS) should, and no doubt will continue!

Unlikely she'll buy it.

Jeez, there's some things that escape memory and you wonder how: like the countless number of pickguard brackets clipped to length.

Boy talk about a train-wreck thread!

Not only is this guitar not new anymore, it's so old I sold it! And that's only for the part of the thread that I understand...
