Ivoroid, actually, Ridgy. Slight yellow tint to it; not nearly as bright as Trad. Series bindings.

Yup, quite fond of it myself. :)
Well shame on me. :) I like the way it stands out in contrast to the darker wood especially on the mahogany...rosewood too. I find that the tortoise shell binding they use in the current trad line blends in too much with the mahogany. I can't wait to try one out.
Ah, Ridgy, of course I was confusing the issue.. I was referring to comparisons with the G-shielded Traditional models (which use white plastic binding), not the other Traditionals that have tortoise-shell. I like the tortoise-shell. I honestly don't remember if the F-212XL Standard has tortoise or ivoroid. I hope to be able to *tell* you soon. :)

I think, Frank U. said that all of the Standard Series have the ivoriod. He was happy about that because the ivoroid does not have the lacquer adhesion problems that the PVC plastic does.

That D50 standard looks real nice at Mandolin Brothers. I like the amount of bling and am kind of surprised to see a back center strip on the body when they are targeting a lower price point. Gee whiz my GSR-F40 doesn't have one and I really like them as decoration on a nice instrument.
If they can get them on the wall with Martins and let people play'em they should do fine.

JG, they really looked great in person when we saw them at LMG2010. You can see from my first post in this thread how jazzed I was. I think the finishing process (and not necessarily the bling items) was the key thing in reducing the production cycle for the Standard Series. If I understood the tour properly, Traditional Series guitars take many days of spray/dry/respray cycles before they can be released. Standard series cuts through that bottleneck somehow. Bottom line (again, if I understood what I heard) is that they can up their volume on Standard Series rather easily while keeping the Traditional Series at a level.

This would be a key element for Guild's future success (I guess that's why I was so excited, not just to see the 212XL back. :))

At the day-after picnic we discussed finishes a bit. I believe that Frank U said the Standard Series were getting coats of varnish first, then a final coat of lacquer. That eliminated labor-intensive sanding and long drying times between multiple coats of lacquer.

Anybody remember if they were going to do burst finishes on the STD series?

I don't recall seeing any standard series bursts at LMG. Did anyone else notice one?

My F-212XL order is definitely "in" (i.e., the order is placed and they are working on processing the order inside Fender)... No clue yet about delivery date. My local store owner has been trying to find out since last week. He has an F-30 and D-40 order in as well for the store. I'll surely let you guys know when I hear more.
They'll probably ship it when they're done with Sandy's D50. You know, the ol' "first in first out", even though they're 2 different shops.

Yeah, the truth is that they've probably already earmarked all the trees they're gonna use for yours. You might save a couple days if you decide to not to wait for the special Seafoam Green finish. Just sayin'.

I hope not too, Chaz! I haven't heard a thing out of Nashville since they told me it "wouldn't be more than two weeks" over a month ago.

Time to get on the phone again. This nonsense really grinds my gears...

Just to get real again, I do actually wonder if all the weather issues out there are affecting their schedule, with real issues such as humidity and heat, or do you think the work areas are climate controlled to deal with those issues. And I saw recently another observation about slow luthiers that made me wonder if they're actually waiting for a period of time to make sure the work "stays fixed" so to speak, and whether weather issues are relevant to that, also. Maybe they're not real good about explaining that to people unless it gets dragged out of 'em? You know what I mean, they might be great craftsmen but poor communicators. Lord knows it's a common combination.

Al, guys,

I don't know if anyone's been in touch with the Nashville folks since the recent weather nightmares... That might well be a factor.

Oh, a few times Chaz. And all those weather maladies were in May, and didn't affect the area around Fender's shop at all. Not that it makes much difference at this point...
