There definitely was a Standard model of an F-50, Bill, in addition to the F212-XL. I don't know if a rosewood version of the F-50 will be done in a Standard trim (I didn't see one in the room).

I love being on the (b)leading edge. From my Guild dealer: "[my] Guild representative [ ... ] advised that it is being added to the roster and we are in line when the bookkeeping computer work is completed."

The GAS is strong. I'm excited. ;)

GAS attack! I'm headed over to Union to go place an order for an F-212XL Standard. I think this means one or two others in the stable are gonna' have to go.

Given my two Westerly 12'ers, one of the jumbo maple variety, I can certainly understand the addiction !

The re-introduction of the F-212XL is a pretty important event in my book. First, it gets the jump on Martin doing a mahogany version of the Grand J (which they haven't yet). Second, it completes the jumbo 12 series. I wonder if they'll do a jumbo, mahogany 6 string too.

There's no question but that I absolutely NEED a jumbo, mahogany 12er in the herd. :D

Damn, Chaz, you can rationalize even better than I can!
Something tells me you've got that down much better than I, Sandy. ;)

Shucks, this GAS attack is gonna' last a while. I'd savor it, if that were possible. :D

So.... the Standard Series did not get announced at summer NAMM this week. Dave G. told me to hang tight and that they were pushing it out to later in the year. I hope all's well with the introduction as I am still very excited to see the Standard Series, especially the F-212XL, as you all know.

I guess we really got a jump on things back in April at LMG. Of course, I wish Guild all the best in a successful launch and I really anticipate a lot of interest in these guitars when they're brought forward to the public.

Me too Chaz. Like you, I would love to see them come out with a hog Jumbo 6er in the Standard series. I'd love to own a F48 to complement my F50R, but they're not exactly easy to find, and the last one that was on the'Bay was a little rough for my tastes.

Until then, I'll just keep on playing this NH D40 to try to get it to open up. These Red Spruce tops are really tight when they're new...

Very interesting, Sandy. I know that on the rosewood end, the D-50 was my favorite product out of Tacoma. I'm not sure if I've had my hands on a NH version. I found those to be alive right at the store. I thought the -40 was essentially a mahogany version of that, so I'm surprised that it feels tight to you. I'll have to see if I can find some to play.

As for a F-48 reissue... I don't think I saw any in the initial line up of the Standard Series, but I agree that's a natural extension. I think the reason might be that it was not a big seller back in the day. I would *love* to see it back in the line up, yet again beating Martin to the punch with a Grand J.

Well, they are, but they do have a Rosewood fingerboard (vs Ebony on the D50). This guitar is tight, but some of it might be that I play it alongside that Martin D18DC that I got recently that is absolutely a tremendous guitar (with all due respect to Guildzilla). That Martin (that's eight years old in all fairness and has an Engelmann Spruce top) has bass that just rumbles in your belly when you play it. When you pick up the D40 right after playing that one, it seems kind of thin by comparison. I know it will get better though.

Guild really needs a hog Jumbo in the line-up I think. I'd like to see it come with an ebony fingerboard too, unlike the original F48. That may just be wishful thinking though.

Did you know there is/was a GAD version of the F-48 in the 2006 catalog? Somehow I missed that! That could explain why they didn't make one (at least that we know of) in the Standard Series (yet).

According to Musician's Friend, it's been discontinued. I'm not sure what that means. I know I never personally saw one in the store.

An F48 would be something nice to see in the catalog. I did have the opportunity to play a GAD F48 in a Houston store late last year. It had a very warm tone, full/balanced, and pretty loud as far as I could tell. It reminded me of my old GAD30 but louder. They wanted premium bread for it, so I was a little turned off considering it was discontinued. There was one here on CL last year for $390, and Elderly just sold a factory second for $500.

I had a GAD JF-48 for about a year.
I never got used to the Burst and the high E string had a funny sound that I could never get rid of. My Luthier said that it was something inherent to the guitar.
It was an all right guitar but it didn't do anything for me.
I sold it to a guy that loves it though.
Go figure.

My F-212XL order is definitely "in" (i.e., the order is placed and they are working on processing the order inside Fender)... No clue yet about delivery date. My local store owner has been trying to find out since last week. He has an F-30 and D-40 order in as well for the store. I'll surely let you guys know when I hear more.

Ivoroid, actually, Ridgy. Slight yellow tint to it; not nearly as bright as Trad. Series bindings.

Yup, quite fond of it myself. :)

Well shame on me. :) I like the way it stands out in contrast to the darker wood especially on the mahogany...rosewood too. I find that the tortoise shell binding they use in the current trad line blends in too much with the mahogany. I can't wait to try one out.
