There definitely was a Standard model of an F-50, Bill, in addition to the F212-XL. I don't know if a rosewood version of the F-50 will be done in a Standard trim (I didn't see one in the room).

The GAS is strong. I'm excited.

GAS attack! I'm headed over to Union to go place an order for an F-212XL Standard. I think this means one or two others in the stable are gonna' have to go.
Something tells me you've got that down much better than I, Sandy.twocorgis said:Chazmo said:There's no question but that I absolutely NEED a jumbo, mahogany 12er in the herd.
Damn, Chaz, you can rationalize even better than I can!
Chazmo said:So.... the Standard Series did not get announced at summer NAMM this week. Dave G. told me to hang tight and that they were pushing it out to later in the year. I hope all's well with the introduction as I am still very excited to see the Standard Series, especially the F-212XL, as you all know.
I guess we really got a jump on things back in April at LMG. Of course, I wish Guild all the best in a successful launch and I really anticipate a lot of interest in these guitars when they're brought forward to the public.
Very interesting, Sandy. I know that on the rosewood end, the D-50 was my favorite product out of Tacoma. I'm not sure if I've had my hands on a NH version. I found those to be alive right at the store. I thought the -40 was essentially a mahogany version of that, so I'm surprised that it feels tight to you. I'll have to see if I can find some to play.twocorgis said:Chazmo said:So.... the Standard Series did not get announced at summer NAMM this week. Me too Chaz. Like you, I would love to see them come out with a hog Jumbo 6er in the Standard series. I'd love to own a F48 to complement my F50R, but they're not exactly easy to find, and the last one that was on the'Bay was a little rough for my tastes.
Until then, I'll just keep on playing this NH D40 to try to get it to open up. These Red Spruce tops are really tight when they're new...

Chazmo said:As for a F-48 reissue... I don't think I saw any in the initial line up of the Standard Series, but I agree that's a natural extension. I think the reason might be that it was not a big seller back in the day. I would *love* to see it back in the line up, yet again beating Martin to the punch with a Grand J.
Chazmo said:Did you know there is/was a GAD version of the F-48 in the 2006 catalog? Somehow I missed that! That could explain why they didn't make one (at least that we know of) in the Standard Series (yet).
According to Musician's Friend, it's been discontinued. I'm not sure what that means. I know I never personally saw one in the store.
Any word on the ETA of your's Charlie?Chazmo said:First ad I've seen for a Standard Series model... Mandolin Bros.:

Ivoroid, actually, Ridgy. Slight yellow tint to it; not nearly as bright as Trad. Series bindings.Ridgemont said:They look pretty nice. I really like the white body binding.
Well shame on me. I like the way it stands out in contrast to the darker wood especially on the mahogany...rosewood too. I find that the tortoise shell binding they use in the current trad line blends in too much with the mahogany. I can't wait to try one out.Chazmo said:Ivoroid, actually, Ridgy. Yup, quite fond of it myself.
