A high school friend of mine came up with that punchline, but with a salacious set up. So in honor of Carnak the Ridiculous, I'll give the answer, and then the question:

Answer: A Hattenhauer

Question: What did Darryl's mom make in the clothing factory?

I guess after that, my dad made a hatted frau.

Anyone ever have the misfortune of owning a Chevette in the early 80s?

I didn't own one, but for a year or two, they were used a fleet vehicles where I worked (NJ state). The one I used to use was so bad I wrote a song about it. The signal arm came off in my hand; the speedometer needle fell off; the steering wheel would vibrate - and that was after it came back from service at the central motor pool.

Then there was my mom's Corvair with two on the dash. Slower than a VW with the mileage of a hemi.

Or my '63 Valiant with three on the dash. I traded it to a guy for a pair of used boots re-soled with tire tread. Much better mileage, and more reliable.

Topped only by my Renault with 4 on the dash. French cars just aren't as good as French snails. Except in speed.

Darryl,

I have no idea how this thread got to 2 speed Corvairs, 3 on the dash Dodges, & Renaults.

It'll really be scary of the Corvair turns out to be a white 4 dr. I never owned any of the afore mentioned vehicles but my friends owned the exact models,

Was the Renault a Dauphine?

French wine, OK I'll go along :) French cars & brie cheese, naaaa, they're right up there with them French Mirage Jets the Navy keeps shooting down in the Middle East. Kaddaffi had several, still does I guess, a few less. You know the ones they keep hiding in Iran every time the US & British planes show up.

My mom had a Chevette, too. I guess she bought a lot of hideous and disfunctional cars so her son wouldn't seem so bad by comparison.

The Corvair wasn't white. And the Renault wasn't a Dauphine--it was a Merde.

And the Danish word for accelerator is "speederen."

There's a picture out in google land with my name on it that isn't me, but it's what I'm going to look like in another 20 years.

So I'll try to out myself here before long.

I had one of those Corvairs with the two speed on the dash in the '60s. Not exactly a speed demon but traction in snow and ice was awesome, and not having a transmission hump made, well, you know  ..... a lot easier than in other cars!

Just two cents worth from ole Scratch.

Can't say i agree much with Willie's politics and lifestyle, etc, but I've always had a soft spot for his music. Guess it might just be a Texas thing, but anyway, this is probably my favorite (teamed up with with Merle H.)
