Peas were the bane of my childhood. I spent hours sitting at the table because I was told I had to finish them before I could leave. I would fill my mouth with milk and swallow them whole when I could. When we moved out of my childhood home and some items that had been in storage for a couple of decades were moved, my hiding places were revealed by the presence of desiccated peas. Even as an adult I will avoid them when I can and I cringe when they are added to the fried or steamed rice. What is strange is that it is not just the taste. I will eat split pea with ham soup rather than go hungry.
Oh, gee, that's most unfortunate. My mom said she does not eat things that she does not like and she was not going to make her kids do it. I believe the same and I never made my son eat anything he didn't think was good. People's taste buds are different. What is good to some is not good to others - if that wasn't true we would all be eating the same things, right? We were encouraged to try it, though. Sometimes we did and sometimes we didn't. Smell being directly linked to taste, if it didn't smell good it didn't warrant a taste test.
