Joe, please, please start a thread about the Beatles Show in Hamburg, Germany. Tell us the skinny. Did you take any pictures? ;)

I'll do that, Toni. I'll try to put together a readable narrative that's not too long but hits the highlights.

*Even though that slice of personal history is great, it carries with it a bittersweet memory. The guy who talked me into going was a good friend for almost three years and after we parted company in Germany, the next time I "saw him" was when I found his name on The Wall in Washington, D.C. :(

Anyway, stay tuned.

I think it was the Faces in 1976, or the J Geils band. I was 16. I have the ticket stub somewhere.

Joe,

Make it super long. Readable is good, but not necessary. Even something that you think is meaningless might be really cool to me. Recreate the whole evening if you can. No detail is too small.

Cat Stevens at the auditorium theater in chicago. 'peace train' had just broke out on the radio & the album teaser & the firecat had hit the record stores.
some short months later at the same venue a friend took me to see Andres Segovia.
both great shows & that unleashed a monster, as i spent more money on concerts than guitar necessities
for years after that :D

Probably the first that I remember, was Eric Clapton in Boston Garden, early '70's. Took a really cool chick too. Found out later most of the guitar work was done by Eric Riddle (?) because Clapton was so f'ed up on heroin. Go figure.

One of the coolest concerts was Roy Buchanan at the Orpheum in Boston with my drummer. Only true guitar guys had heard of him then but he was hot. Loved the sounds he could get out of that Telecaster.

And the there was the concert my buddy and I put on behind his house, next to the pool. A couple of big Ampeg amps were very effective in bringing down the wrath of the neighbors followed closely by the Milton police. That was very cool!

I love Roy Buchanan. I just watched the PBS special first aired back in 1971? (1972?), on youtube. He was so very very good.

Scratch: I only want to hear about it if they did "Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter."

As to the warm up bands, I think you might be in error. The McCoys opened, then there was some band "Something-something and the Midnight Newsboys," and then Hendrix. The Soft Machine was also advertised, but they did not appear that night (I think that was Andy Summers of Police fame's band, right?)
The McCoys: Rick Derringer.
Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys. :D
Yep, Andy Summers was in Soft Machine but that band was a veritable musical chairs of membership and a seedbed for many progressive acts that followed including King Crimson and Gong.
(Note link is to their Wiki page and explains why they didn't make the date. )

USO show for the USAF and Navy troops stationed at Charleston's military installations. I recall that Tina was hot (of course), but Ike was as screwed up on stage as he was off. He was one strange dude...
