I hope this isn't a re-hash, but I searched and couldn't find this subject.

Mine was The Grass Roots, 1968. (Next one was Tommy James & the Shondells)

Iron Butterfly (the drum solo's even worse live), Savoy Brown, and Catfish, at the now-demolished Spectrum in Philly, February 14, 1970. I remember really liking Savoy Brown.

Even better, it was a middle school trip, complete with yellow school bus. VERY liberal Main Line school district.

Peter Frampton I think it was around '76 @ the huge JFK stadium in Philly. I was around 14 at the time ( these dates might be off ) Lynard Skynard or Molly Hatchet opened for Him. From what I could tell it was good. Even though it was sunny out , it was very cloudy in the stadium

I remember going to a local rock concert in Simi Valley, in Southern California when I was in high-school. I was deaf for a few days after that. The first REAL concert was Elton John at the Los Angeles Coliseum in Inglewood. It was about 1973 I think.....

Allman Bros. Band, early 1970's.

The warm-up act was one I'd never heard of before that night . . . they called themselves "The Eagles". I wonder whatever became of them?

    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    J. Geils Band
    Dicky Betts & Great Southern

I was there.

The first big show for me was Steely Dan in Minneapolis in the early 70s. Dr. Hook opened.

My first concert was The Supremes at the Central Park Schaefer Music Festival at the Wollman Skating Rink in 1971 when I was almost 12.

The first concert I actually purchased the tickets myself was Alice Cooper with Flo and Eddie opening at the Nassau Coliseum in '73 when I was almost 14.

First big show was Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Nassau Coliseum, 1974. Nassau Coliseum is still there, still the same, it's just a real dump now. :(

Happily, neil is still great, and we share the same birthday. :D

Define concert.

Schenectady Symphony Orchestra circa 1959. Of course, my dad was first horn and assistant conductor.

Rock and roll concert would probably be Jefferson Airplane circa 1971 or 1972. Also saw Allman Brothers and B. B. King in the same time frame (although not the same concert since I do recall that Climax Blues Band opened for B. B. King) so it is possibly one of those was the first instead.

 A bit embarassing, as it is not typical of what I'd listen to. But it was Alice Cooper, His "Welcome to my Nightmare" Tour, About '75-'76. The opening act was Suzi Quatro ( a lovely Aussie rocker). First 'real' big venue concert as such. Monsters on stage, guiotine, cyclops, women dressed as spiders.........At about 15 years old, I was blown away. 8)
Not to mention, my first exposure to 'that strange smell' in the air.

My first concert was The Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1968 at Boston Garden. The opening act was the Troggs (Wild Thing). In those days, when you're 19 years old, you sent the $$$ to the ticket office and you were sent the tickets. Well, was I surprised when the seats turned out to be 6 rows back from the stage. It impressed the young lady that I was with.
