Dave - we've been doing "3rd Rate Romance" for awhile now on two acoustics, what a blast. :D Great song as done by The Amazing Rythym Aces. Do you do that in "G"?

I've enjoyed doing Paul Simon's "At The Zoo" and "The Dangling Conversation" on my DV-52 a lot lately :D Pulled out "A Most Peculiar Man" a couple nights ago, that was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar.

"Crazy" and "Pancho and Lefty" by Willie.

"Dixie Chicken" a la Lowell George/Little Feat in "E"

"Nights In White Satin" in "Dm"

"Stormy Monday Blues" in "A"

I've been doing 3rd Rate in A, actually. Started playing it with a bunch of friends just jammin', but I like to play it and have tried to cover it in a recording. Not done yet, tho.

"At The Zoo" is a great Simon song. That brings back memories.

Dave :D

Norman Blake's Slow Train Through Georgia. Since I don't play as well as Norman, I'm adding a harp part, which sounds nice on that song, but I hate playing harp in a rack, so it's driving me crazy. Works great with my friend Marie on guitar, an me on harp and vocal. I'll get the solo version figured out one day soon. I really like that song and it ain't going to whup me.

It's a lot of fun when it all comes together, though.

Gentle on my Mind by John Hartford, a bunch of old Lightfoot tunes (Miguel, Don Quixote, Bitter Green, Alberta Bound, Steel Rail Blues, and Early Morning Rain), and a couple of old Marty Robbins tunes (Saddle Tramp and Strawberry Roan). D

I'm always leafing through my favorite homemade song books of Dylan, Prine, Simon, Young, Cash, etc.
Lately, I've been drawn to working on My Mexican Home by John Prine. Like most of John's songs, there's a heck of a good story in there, and I'm a lyrics guy!

I feel a storm all wet and warm, not ten miles away,
approaching my Mexican home.

I'm supposed to be working up "I'm Old Fashioned," and "I Know Why (and so do You)," for our group, but I keep goofing off and wind up noodling on "Mr. Bojangles," and "Secret Agent Man."

I think I'm gonna reprise some Kingston Trio stuff! 8)

I've been working on the 1812 Overture lately, but finding the cannon shots really difficult to replicate.
A leather paddle swatted on the top works well. (Mute the strings.) I have a spare but the shipping is probably more than the paddle. I'm sure you could find one down there at a reasonable price. Maybe even from a damaged goods sale. 8)

Great Al, thank you.

I'm currently searching for a multi-lingual cathedral choir to do the vocal bit.

I am friggin impressed! The number of people who know there is a choral part written in the 1812 Overture is pretty small. The fact that most recordings don't use a chorus (because it costs money) is a contributing factor.

I learned Russian by rote and was in the chorus for a performance by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Ormandy back in the days when the JS II was my only Guild - not that there is any other connection besides the date

That 2001 piece for instance. What is it, "Thus spoke the Zorro Thruster"
Myself, I'm sticking with "Chim Chim Cheree". Really. No one believes me until they hear it but it actually jazzes up quite nicely. 8)

Is that the same as "The Space Oddity" ??

Nah; I don't believe you either ! But, I'm a great fan of Julie Under-Drawers. I have all of her albumens.
Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss as used in 2001: A Space Odyssey

Edit: OK if I had read more of the thread I would have realized I was answering a rhetorical question

Three Times A Fool- Otis Rush
Long Distance Blues- Joe Bonamassa

My D25 has been getting a lot of love lately since I sold my Tele and have been letting the Starfire rest in it's case.

The great white north eh!
With the rain on, rain off weather last weekend I spent some time learning a few zeppelin tracks while procrastinating on doing some work in the garage:

Tangerine is pretty simple and the intro sounds good strummed behind the sound hole for a little tighter metallic tone.

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is really fun! Seems to be one of those songs that is loud no matter how soft you try to play!!!

That's only about 3 degrees of Kevin Bacon away from "Monday Monday" and "California Dreamin'", but let's not go to San Francisco, please.
On reflection though, I could use another "Greenback Dollar". :D

I realize I'm a poor substitute, just takin' up slack 'til Darryl gets back.
BTW way Coastie; Jewelry Andyous doesn't sing the Chimney Sweep Song, Richard the Beard does. She was a pretty good Victorian though:

I had a good-old, old-time edumication Frodoexlax. Then I edumicated myself some more !
