That's terrible news. I've been in those shoes and I know how difficult and frightening it can be. We can only hope things will turn around soon. Here's wishing you a change for the better... hang in there.

Sorry to hear the bad news. These are challenging times for far too many these days. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Keep your head up, Dread. Been there too when I had an infant son, and will never forget how rough of a time it was. This too shall pass, and at the end of the tunnel you'll be stronger for it. Stay as positive as you can, and hang tough.

Feel for ya Dread. I got laid of in April here in Ohio. I just got approved for my 1st 13 week extension of unemployment benefits that will last through February 09. Unfortunately, maximum unemplyment benefits (weekly amount) is ridiculously low compared to Ohio. I venture to say there's not as much difference in the cost of living in Michigan as there is in Ohio; which should put us on an even scale. It doesn't though because unemployment benefits seemed to be based on average (state) income instead of living costs. I certainly don't envy you at all Dread even though we're in the same boat. Being a Michigan neighbor and former resident of Sturgis, Michigan, I'm well aware of how hard it is to get anything done there. I wish there was more I could offer other than the perverbial, "hang in there".

While Michigan and Ohio are in the same boat my guess is that the whole of the midwest will eventually see worse long before it gets any better.

Peace

I'm so sorry to hear about anyone losing a job - more and more these days. And especially one of us. Damn. Good luck, Dread - keep on keeping on.

So sorry for you Dread, and anybody else here who's in a similar situation. It's a very frightening situation to be in and, judging by the news that I see on the television about the American economy, one that may well get a whole lot worse.

I hope that a new direction opens for you soon.

Very sorry to hear that dreadnut. You are in my thoughts.

However, these CEO's show incredibly poor judgement. I heard when the first went to Washington they arrived in their private jets.

Pictures were shown on New Zealand TV of that event. Totally incomprehensible behaviour ! It smacked of some kind of immorality to me.

But another news item within the last couple of days suggested that they may have been successful on their second trip.

Good luck figuring things out Dread.

My girlfriend lost her job when the bio-tech startup she was working at lost its funding. After weeks of frustration, I finally hired her as a retail clerk in my little running store for $7 an hour.

Might as well pay her as somebody else.

But what it is doing for her is keeping her busy and occupied while she job hunts, she has some grocery money coming in, and she feels useful. It's better than sitting around the house waiting for someone to call on the resume. I am lucky because I now have a PhD scientist organizing my inventory and orders, which is a huge upscale from recent college grads who tried hard but didn't have the comprehension to grasp the needs of the task. And she has ideas that we implement that are increasing some sales, which helps make up for our lost sales.

She is grossly underpaid for her skill set, but it helps me. I have also found a couple part-timers that she referred who in are also way, way over-qualified, but they appreciate the small income as well as the opportunity to contribute and stay busy while looking for career work.

Anyway, just a thought. Find someplace you can volunteer or work for a small amount just to keep your mind busy and network with people just walking through the doors.

I am also feeling for you, Dred. I have been there, too.
Not to make light of the situation, but it does give you a little more time to play your axes.
Hey! You got through the heart problem. This is a piece of cake!

Stay strong, Friend!

Dread,

Bubba, I'm sorry about your problems. I have a feeling there's going to be a whole lot of good folks in your position in the next year.

I'm self employed with two ladies who work for me. We are, in all candor, way down on income from last year. I'm going to do my best to keep us all going, but man, it's going to be tough.

Good luck my friend.

Regards, Harry

That sucks, and I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope things will pick up for you very soon, and for the economy on the whole. (both in the U.S. and on this side of the pond)

I've played half the gigs I've played last year, and from what my musician brothers are telling me, it's definitely a trend, not a coincidence. I got lucky before summer making some publishing money (song in a movie), but I'm working on two new band projects now - I'm going to need the extra work real soon.
