Got the news this morning, my company laid off 121 people, about 1/3 of the workforce :(

So, I spent the morning at the local Unenjoyment office. Kinda sucks in Michigan, 9.5% unemployment. Every job opening gets 4500 applicants...

Sorry to hear the bad news.
My son was also layed off a few weeks ago.
I hope that our new President will be able to find a way to turn the economy around and get America back on it's feet.

I hope that things will trun around and you will be able to get back to work real soon,
TMG.

Sorry to hear that, Dred; you're in my prayers. If the Big 3 don't get their handout/bailout, I can only imagine what your unemployment rate will be like. Michigan has been feeling the pinch far too long. Is your governor is taking any heat? I would hope so...

Hang in there, dread! Chin up and all that. For most of my colleagues in high-tech, though recovery sometimes takes a while, it turns out to be a mixed blessing -- they come out with better jobs at stronger companies.

But, I feel for ya'... Keep us posted.

Dred,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, economically, here, things are not catastrophic, edges of the economy are starting to unravel a bit.

Our kids are closer to it, I can report accurately; Heavy Construction, Granite Counter Tops & Cruise Sales are noticeably slower.

Paid $1.79 for regular Yesterday, :) :!:

That sucks.
Be sure to hit the networking sites (like linkedin.com.) By now we all know it's who you know.
Don't be afraid to ask the folks here if we know someone at a company or place you're interviewing, the tentacles of this group are far-reaching!

Hang in there, Dred. We'll be watching for anything we can do to help.

Some wanker on the news this morning said that they are projecting oil to drop to $20 a barrel. If that happens, maybe that backlog of Escalades and Navigators will disappear and things will pick up in your neck of the woods. <crosses fingers>

My prayers are with you Marc. There's always moving to Texas.....still a pretty good economy down here. Unless of course, the governement starts to overregulate the energy industry and "bankrupt the coal industry", then we'll be just like every place else.

If you need anything or there is anything I can do, give me a call. PM on the way.

So, so sorry to hear.

Glad you've at least got unemployment comp...hopefully that will carry you thru.

Lost everything a long time ago, and, as a lady, it's impossible to climb back out of the hole. Try thinking about what you can do to be self-employed...it's harder to fire yourself.

The networking suggestion is great, especially re: the LTG family here.

Speaking of which: I'd been holding on to the hope of networking for employment within the music industry at NAMM again this January...what better place to do so...and got the same editorial assignment I've had the last 10 years covering NAMM...and this year NAMM decided to limit access to only a chosen few 'invited' BIG media outlets  that leaves me out in the cold.

I have contacted some of the previous year's exhibitors in the hopes of trading part time booth work for access...no luck so far. So, if anyone knows anyone at NAMM who's going to be shortstaffed due to the expenses of bringing employees from out of the area...I'm local...I've got trade show sales experience...and I know the NAMM floor real well. Non-exhibiting NAMM members can also obtain badges. Note: you cannot 'borrow' someone else's badge...they DO check ID closely. So, LTG family, let me know if anyone can help.

Dread, just hang in there...and think outside the box. :D

Dread - sorry to hear the news. Best of luck to you... and to many of the rest of us who are just waiting for that shoe to drop.

Dread, that sucks - much the same situation over here. Now I'm in a situation where I really would like a redundancy pay off but have been told there isn't a hope in hell of that for me - job security when i don't want it (I want to build an acting and maybe even singing career now and phase out what I've been doing for the last several years) yet others in the company I work for who have a desperate need of employment to pay mortgages etc are under threat of redundancy :( I personally am a pension specialist responsible for vetting pension transfer business done by our Advisers and directly registered with the FSA (Financial Services Authority, UK equivalent of the US SEC) and with mortgage and investment business on the wane, most of our Advisers are now concentrating on pensions. Our team is snowed under with work as a result so I am very much in demand - they begged to keep me beyond 60 which I am at the end of January, though I have insisted on dropping to a 4 day week and drawing some pension to make up the drop in income. Hope all goes well for you, I really do :!:
