Hey, Guildy, is the replacement top Sitka, or is it Adirondack?

Is he re-using that bridge, or sourcing a new one? I assume re-use. This guitar's gonna' be awesome. :)

Per Hans it’s a 90’s D-4 or D-25 top, so I guess whatever they were using at the time. My guess is Sitka. Hopefully he can reuse the bridge. That’s the goal. I’m going to ask him shortly.

I should add that some well meaning bonehead …ahem…may have sanded the radius off the bottom of the bridge when I…I mean the bonehead, was trying to do a few things before shipping the guitar to someone who knows better…

Steve will attempt to redo the radius and hopefully he doesn’t run out of material.

Anyone have a lead on an F-20 bridge from that era? Oops.

GaH, I don't see what it is you're talking about regarding the bridge, but if you need a new bridge maybe give Oxnard a call? If you're looking for period, correct, try Hans.

It wouldn’t be noticeable in that photo. But up close the bridge will rock on the top. Will have to be scraped back into shape to glue down properly. I sent a message to Hans.

Top went on today. I asked Steve if there were any major issues with the neck angle when he did the dry fit. He said nothing too crazy but it was noticeably overset. CDCC3E9D-6DC6-4F1B-A2F5-9ACE91882380.jpeg

Please excuse me for being uninformed, but per the neck what does overset mean?

Really enjoying this thread! Thank you for bringing us along.

Tilted too far back rather than forward as I understand it.

Glad to bring you all along. I’m learning a lot on this forum and from this rebuild.

Yes, neck re-sets are typicaly inspired by underset necks, mean after some years the action is too high and the saddle too low. (picture 3)
Overset is caused by taking too much off the heel and giving it too much back angle, so the guitar will need a really tall saddle and high bridge. (middle picture) Some luthiers overset necks by purpose to avoid neck resets in the future...

Your luthier wouldn't be named Griffin, by chance, Rick Griffin?

Well, the finish takes a good time including the many drying times between spraying and sanding. So end of October sounds pretty aggressive to me. Great job in any case!

Just realized he's re-using original through-slot bridge? Made me remember we had a discussion recently about whether saddles were normally glued-in on those (doesn't make sense to me, I don't see a need, but apparently it's been frequently seen).

So just out of curiosity, what's your luthier's take on that?

He’s reusing it at my request. It’s BRW. I’ll inquire about his thoughts on that since I want him to make two saddles anyway. FWIW I think mine was glued in but not overly so.

Yeah, just forgot if you'd already mentioned re-using the saddle, and where that discussion about glued-in saddles occurred. ;)
