"Mercury Poisoning" - Graham Parker and the Rumour

In case you don't get it from the lyrics, this is Parker's middle finger to his former label, Mercury Records.

"Sentimental Lady" - Fleetwood Mac

Bob Welch recorded this song twice, once as a member of Fleetwood Mac and again a few years later on his solo album. There's not much to distinguish the two versions except the presence of Christine McVie's background vocals on the earlier one.

This track is from the excellent album Bare Trees. Danny Kirwan was still in the band, Buckingham and Nicks had yet to join, and overall they were still more of a blues band and hadn't yet become the pop juggernaut they would eventually be. The title track is a personal favorite.

What's the connection to Sentimental Lady, @Okko?
Actually its also about a lady and it sounds very sentimental…. This is according to the walrus rules…. But…. I needed some time to find this very fitting explanation….. because I didn’t see your contribution and reacted on the previous song 😂😂 I did check and used the search etc…. for… Tom Petty… 🤔so this is what rules will do… sorry Dwasifar…

"Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" - Carpenters

Another very unlikely cover that nonetheless exists. Here are the Carpenters, most usually known for marshmallow-soft rock like "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "Close to You," covering Klaatu's science fiction anthem about contacting UFOs by telepathy.

If you want something even weirder, here's the Langley Schools version.

Damn I miss Karen Carpenter. One of the best female vocalists of all time; her voice is so clear and powerful. She is under-appreciated.

I thought the same thing, hence this one. Also of note, this is one of if not the first soft ballad with a rock electric guitar solo.👍
