Is anyone else as miffed/perplexed/bummed/outraged as I am at the latest AG mag's profile of the 7 most important acoustic guitars? The Taylor 12 string is given the 12-string slot. wtf? Excuse me? What about those beautiful old jumbo 12 string Guilds that, ahem, I believe came well before the Taylor and which the Taylor looks suspiciously like? (I don't mean in any way to belittle the importance of Taylor's contributions to the acoustic world, but their 12 string???) And I may be wrong about the chronology - I haven't read Hans' book.

I feel Guild has been shortchanged on this one. Looking for emotional support and affirmation ...

thanks fellas

Bill

Amen, brother. Not even close unless you favor the tinnie, tenor kinda tunes Taylor 12s are known for... Wonder how much Taylor put in their pocket for the endorsement?

Hi Bighouse: Maybe FMIC/Guild doesn't advertise as much as other brands in AG ... like Car and Driver and Motor Trend magazines who never tested a car [manufactured by a large advertiser] they didn't like. CJ

Capn - I hope that's not the case. Guild seems to run ads in there pretty regularly, I think. And they did a feature article on Guild 9-10 months(?) ago.

I remain

perplexed,

Taylor... nice action, but who needs action with that sound. My 1969 Eko 12 had good action...

I know Bill, I was being cynical but who knows what the side effects are from stuff like last year's AG article about Guild and LTG's radioactive thread on the subject. I agree, Guild should have gotten the nod. That having been said, none of us ought to give any weight to what industry 'rags' have to say. IMO, anybody who buys a set of Calloway golf clubs based on a review they read in Golf Digest is making a mistake ... and AG proved that point last year. Best, John

Thanks, John.
My cynicism-detection abilities seem to be compromised at the moment for some reason. I'm usually well attuned to it and poised to offer my own bit of cynical input. Ah, well ...

Guild certainly have and has had more influence on the 12-string scene than Taylor could ever dream about. Ad-lib, how many guitarist that is or has been playing a Guild 12'er can you think of? Now, playing a Taylor, how many artists can you think of?

Hm... Pete Townsend, SRV, John Denver, Tom Petty, Eric Johnson and many, many more.

Anyway, Guild as part of FMIC need make their voice heard more frequently or the Guild 12-string will be reduced to a parenthesis of the history of 12-strings pretty soon.

Taylor ought to be kissing Guilds a__ for every dollar that they make off any 12 string they sell. With out Guild 12s there would only be the electric market Ricks opened up. Kind of like offspring....If your parents didn't have kids....chances are you won't either! Steffan
P.S. I would't take a whole range of Taylors in trade for my 512 R. There really isn't anything like them..period, and mine at 28 years old will always outdistance the Taylors.

Most who have played a Taylor most-likely agree the neck frets nicely. I keep a Taylor 355-12 here at the office for stress relief and occasional lunchtime jamming. When I get home in the evening, I usually pick up one of the Guild 12ers and boom the same tune I played on the Taylor that day. Big, big difference in effect... Also, the Taylor can't 'cut thru' in jam sessions like a Guild 12 which, if thumped good, drowns out all competition; especially the jumbos...

Maybe we like our Guilds because they were built by craftsman.. 8) They took pride in their work and are still revered for it. ..I think Taylors are very good factory assembly line predictable, descent, but not usually too special, guitars....while every Guild I've played has been special in its own way.....like children. Different  ....but awesome!!! :D Steffan
