If any of you have an old beater (doesn't matter what brand, size, or whatever) that isn't playable.......I'm looking for old guitars that I can hang on my wall for the heck of it.

Good thing we have a "history" between us!! Otherwise I'd take offense at that!! (lol) Tell ya what........you give me the $2,000.00 to buy a really top shelf instrument, and I'll gladly hang up my non-domestics.

n/m'57,

you could sell all that chinese crap and probably get yourself a 'real' guild !!!!
but then you'd have no wall hangings.

i have 2 taylors, they make nice suits !

I actually DID own a "Taylor" at one point in my life, and since I don't generally amplify my acoustics, I was very disappointed in its lack of projection.

I suppose, in all fairness, that if I was still playin in coffee houses or whatever, and was amplifying it, I would find it quite acceptable.

I still think a GAD-25 and GAD-50 from China beat the pants off a Taylor for unamplified projection. (and I didn't find the action all that impressive on the Taylor either.......status quo).

I hate to say it but I'm convinced and I know Nutmegger can back me up,the GAD's are as good as anything made over here, past and present. I want to thank you also Nutmegger for your You Tube reviews. They were a big reason why I got a GAD and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made.

What fun is buying something unplayable? Find a playable beater, play it HARD until the top cracks and bridge falls off, then screw it to the wall of your shop. That's what I did. Any of you salad bowl back lovers out there should look away......it ain't pretty....

Yeah, That's a beater. Ovation?

Are there any other salad bowl backs that look like that?

In defense of the salad bowl, that guitar was in my work van when I was in the Steamfitters union for 10 years. All weather. Had to wrestle it away from a guy I caught breaking in to my van in the Bronx once. It was retired with honor. It served valiantly under harsh conditions. Thinking about it now, it probably deserves better than the wall.......

You should have screwed it to a table - that way you could put ice in it and chill some beers.

Well Randall64, if you can't hear the difference than i guess a chinese guitar with a poly finish is the one for you ! Enjoy it.

Just don't ever complain if you lose your job to foreign competition, and don't be bitter when your company decides that you're not worth what they pay you and let somebody overseas do it for less.

I'm not gonna knock anyone's guitars. I'm sure you fell in love with yours just as I have with mine.

But with that said, I firmly believe in buying American whenever possible. I take a lot of pride in playing my Westerly Guilds and a lot pride in riding around on my Cannondale road bike (replete with a Made in USA flag logo). I think we've really lost our way in America - we want lots of stuff and we want it cheap. People scoff at the prices at the local farmer's market, and then run down to Stop & Shop to buy spinach grown in Mexico that took six weeks to get from the pesticide laden field to your door. The same goes for material goods as well.

My wish is for people to make more thoughtful buying decisions - to really think about how your choice affects the world around you. Obviously this is a very simple model. But when I bought my first Guild I thought about how I was supporting not just Americans, but people in my own neighborhood (CT/RI). And while my most recent purchase was a used Guild, I chose to buy one through Ron's Guitars which is only 25 minutes from my house. Maybe the people who made my guitars, and/or sold me my guitars got paid and went off to buy dinner at Two Little Fish in Westerly which is owned by two old friends of mine. And then those guys went down to the dock to buy fresh lobsters from a local lobsterman. And maybe that guy turned around and bought an American made guitar. And on and on the storie goes . . . but only if we each do our part.

Chris,

It's more likely they went to Reales Grocery for a grinder than to the much more upscale Two Little Fish, but I get your sentiments. Spot on!

Gotcha. And I'm glad someone still says "grinder" - the Subway empire seems to have almost removed that word from our vocabulary around here. The only "subs" I knew about as a kid were being made in boatyard in southeastern, CT.

There are still purists that say "grinder" (& whatever it is that Subway makes is not a grinder)

"EB" -- another vernacular of this area
