We have a BINGO on board number 29!

That Blue Westerly JF30-12 that was on craigslist! Man what a beauty! Yeah, like I had said, it was way overpriced. I wrote to Tony in Maine and told him it was way overpriced and said I'd buy it for what I thought was a lot less, like I said, 33% less, figuring he'd decline, but he didn't! So it's going to be mine, mine, mine! Yes, yes, I've already got the best JF30-12 this side of the Mississippi, but I don't have a WESTERLY, and he said it was "barely played," so it should be good. I'm pretty excited! Since it was on craigs, he wasn't really prepared to ship it, so it'll be a few days before he gets that together, which is fine. But, did I say I was pretty excited? Man, a BLUE jumbo JF30-12, WOW! Can. Not. Wait!

Congrats Cougar. Now that beautiful burst JF-30 12 of yours has a sibling. And it has the factory installed pickup and volume/tone control knobs! If you don't mind, let us know what you think about the "plugged in" sound of that old pickup.

I half seriously considered that guitar, but I never thought the owner would sell for much less than asking..... Congrats!

Thanks. Yeah, Tony was great to work with. The guitar had been up on his local craigslist nearly a month, and he said he had kept renewing the ad, which means it had been up for a month or more before that. He said I put in my offer at the right time. I've had some luck with my guitar purchases. (Now if I'd only have some luck with the powerball....)

Notably, Tony mentioned that somebody contacted him and said they'd mention the guitar here on LTG! (Richard?) Whoever it was, I certainly appreciate it! And I'm sure Tony does too.

So Tony was an old hand on ebay, and he agreed to put it up there so I'd have some protection. He let me know the second it was up, and I nabbed it quick! I'd be very wary about sending a stranger my money on the promise he'd send the guitar. I think this is going to work out great.

WoodGrain Blue. Guild called them the "Woodgrain colors".
Ralf

Ah, OK, thanks. Yeah, I guess it's a "translucent" blue that lets the grain show through. I can't wait to see that flamey back in person... and take some more photos!

This guitar was listed in the same estate auction where I got my DV73. I guess no one bid on it, so it was then listed on Craigslist.

Congrats!

Thanks. Yeah, I like to plug 'em in. I don't know what kind of pickup these came with....

Biggest of big blue jumbo congrats Cougar, well played!:applause::applause::applause:

Very nice, Cougs! Looking forward to your NGD. The translucent blue is really sharp!

Thanks, Chaz. Yeah, I wonder how hard it's going to be to get a good shot of the grain through the trans blue. But that's what I'll be going for. It was none too easy on my trans cherry Epiphone, for example....

I have a Gibson ES-330L in Beale Street Blue. It's a fairly dark looking blue in general, but in natural light or with direct bulb lighting, the color is transformed into a much lighter shade - with grain lines showing through rather clearly.

From the photos, your new JF-30 looks quite similar in color. I'm guessing you'll be able to get some good photos of the grain.

Btw, Congrats & Enjoy!

Here’s the back of my F65-CE in the same Woodgrain Blue. Well, it’s close, anyway. You can definitely see the maple grain under the color. FYI, this instrument belonged to Marc Ellis. I played it today at a gig and it still sounds fantastic.

It's an '87, from the height of the "confusing s/n period."
According to the charts they started off with full-blown "JF3012" numbers that apparently were just too dam long and went to the JF30 sequence like yours, before finally going to"J23" prefixes by end of '88, apparently to avoid confusion with regular JF30 s/n's.
In fact my buddy's '87 is a "J23" already.
Pickup?
Fishman "FT-1"; $195.00 adder. (Think it's actually Fishman's AGP-2.)

I had looked at the chart and was mystified. Man, you're not kidding about the confusing s/n period. I'm still confused. According to the chart, my guitar doesn't exist. As you say, they dropped the "12" before they got to mine, leaving just the "JF30," but the last production number in the JF3012 sequence is 198, and my production number is 923 (13x71 for the numerologically inclined). Except for the info from your buddy's numbering, wouldn't that make it a 1988? Either way, close enough for me. I'm looking forward to hear some of that Westerly mystique. :listening_headphone

...and my production number is 923... wouldn't that make it a 1988?

No, wait, that can't be right. They don't reach that number till 1991, but as you say, they're well into the "J23" prefix by then.

It'll be my oldest guitar, I know that!
