Don't feel too bad. It comes at a terrible cost for someone who enjoys playing guitar (and violin!). I regularly come home from work with busted up hands. Wood splinters, metal splinters, cuts, scrapes, burns, and general aches and pains. There are days when it straight up hurts to play, but I do it anyway. I'll play with bandaids on fingertips w/ cuts on them. Wiping blood from my fingers seems to be a weekly occurance.

This is just from this morning.....digging around the back of a refrigeration unit (full of hundreds of bottles of beer...so I'll be damned if I'm breaking my back to empty it so I can move the unit to easily get to the clogged condensation line from the back. I just took the front panel off, laid on the floor and reached past the razor sharp radiator fins to get to the problem. 4-5 bloody cuts on my hand later....problem fixed.

So sorry for the hurts. I'm notorious for sticking my hands just about anywhere and rarely wear gloves - usually don't have any with me - but I'm not doing the kind of work you have to do. Still wish I knew how, though. There are a lot of repairs and maintenance that need to be done around here.

??? 140+ on a par 72 course?

:)
Not far off. I play only 2-3 times a year and they are what I call the disease circuit, (Charity events).

I topped 80% of my shots.

I used to enjoy golf in my mid 40's but the first round took 5 hours and the Saturday was 6 hours...total time waste.

But it was certainly a mundane statement.

My one attempt at golf ended very quickly, not even completing the first hole, but I recall with fondness driving the cart while everyone else played.

I don't understand the appeal of golf. I didn't care much for goofy golf/carpet golf even as a kid other than it was something different to do.

My mom watches golf on TV. I guess there's not a channel for watching paint dry. (with apologies to golf fans, but I just don't get it).

I was tempted to leave my tailgate open on my p/up as I left the second round...and then accelerate quickly to lose them.

One of my favorite golf jokes:

John Daley on why he changed putters: The other one didn't float!

Only played golf on an actual course once. (Numerous times on those mini 9 hole par 3 courses they have at some driving ranges.) It was at a beat up public course at Haines Point in Wash DC. The weather was sketchy and we didn't see anyone else out there. Well somewhere midway, I was walking down the fairway after teeing off...and saw a $20 bill drifting by in the breeze. Picked it up....then saw another 20, then a 10, then a 5, then 2 more 20's!! It's like as if some poor guy bought a $5 hot dog in the club house w/ a $100 bill and dropped the change somewhere on the course. I even asked the guy at the clubhouse if he knew the last people who were on the course. They said they had no idea and that it had been a super slow day. I wound up w/ a $95 payday for my lousy golf game. Not bad.

I heard about the 4,000 beagle rescues in Virginia and I'm thinking of reaching out. I wonder if any will come up to MA.
I love all dogs....but I honestly think the saying, "It's bark is worse than it's bite" originated with a beagle owner. :censored:

Didn't finish one hole?? Did you break a nail?:p

Golf is remarkably hard to play well consistently.

4000 beagles was in the news in Finland, too.

So sad and cruel.

Not bad. The paydays for really exceptional and consistent golfing is much better though.

I was just wondering just how many string threads there are just on this forum.

A query for "string" in the database returns 1784, which includes things like "Billy Strings"
A query for "strings" in the database returns 607, which also includes things like "Billy Strings"
A query for "strings?" returns 64, which does not happen to include "Billy Strings"
A query for "string?" returns 41, which includes things like "12-string"
A query for "what strings" returns 24
A query for "guitar string" returns 24
A query for "guitar strings" returns 15
A query for "string recommendation" returns 10
A query for "which strings" returns 7
A query for "bronze string" returns 3
A query for "brand string" returns 3
A query for "coated string" returns 3
A query for "string brand" returns 2

All queries are for thread titles only.

OK, I'm done. :)

Exactly. I've played quite a bit... before I moved to North Idaho. Used to play twice a week. Not really that great, though. My most common review of 18 holes was "I hit a few good shots." But consistently? -- Really hard.

There's a Jack Nicklaus-designed course nearby -- the Idaho Club. I played there once... and swore I'd never play there again. It's a ridiculously hard course. I lost 9 balls the one time I played there. If you missed the fairway, you're either in the forest or in the water. Nasty course.

I'm going to try to play 9 holes in Sandpoint tomorrow. (An easier course!) I've had one health issue after another lately, so we'll see how it goes....

Agreed, golf is not as easy as it looks. The key is to just enjoy the fact you are outside with friends, not in a cubicle somewhere. I hit plenty of bad shots, but even a bad shot is better than a sitting in a mindless meeting in the office!

Another key is to pick your playing partners wisely. I've played with people who are a******s, and it can be a long 3 - 4 hours if so. It is a very (the most?) "social" sport, so even a bad round can be fun with the right playing partners.

All true, but for some it's also an excuse to get away from their wives for most of a Saturday while drinking and gambling w/ buddies under the guise of partaking in sport. (There are a hundred ways you can bet on golf and I've even heard of course marshalls riding around in a cart telling people how. ) There's a course they built about 20 yrs ago near me I'd still love to check out. It's called Renditions and is modeled after all the world's most famous course holes. My friends that are avid golfers all avoided it for a long time saying it'll take 10-15 years for it to "grow in". All I know is I just want to take a few swings at their Sawgrass 17.🧐(y)
