The straight string path from the tuner through the nut must be a technical advantage for the straight-six headstock, especially on a guitar with a vibrato tailpiece. The mechanical advantage is evidently small enough that most guitars still have three-plus-three headstocks with their classic symmetry.

I like the modern, streamlined look of the headstock as part of the new Starfire Jet. I'm not convinced that 3 > 2 when counting pickups in general, but the overall more-is-more Western Deco aesthetic hangs together on this guitar, especially in that showy yellow finish.

That's the same style as already used on the 2018 Jetstar, so nothing new. But it isn't so obvious there as the headstock is black:

The vintage 60ies models used the metal TRC, you could argue if that was a better fit or not to that headstock shape. In my opinion yes.

The natural one looks as odd as the new one with either TRC...

And the new Starfire I Jet:

Who did it first? Guild or Micro-frets?

Demo on youtube.

And, although Ronquillio is a great as always, I don't really hear a retro/ twangy sound coming from this guitar. It´s more pure rock. Probably the position of the bridge pu has indeed an influence here.

I guess this is done on purpose though to attract a (younger?) player that likes the retro " cool" look but does not necess. wants a retro sound.

Man, that looks like a straight-up Krylon refin. Pawnshop memories...

I guess it will be competing with the Epi Riviera P93 (which is about $600 new).

Love it! Absolutely love it! Reminds me of those wierd Japanese guitars we used to see back in the 60's...probably $79.95 back then, but might as well have been $7995 for as close as you were as a kid to getting one. It just doesn't have enough MOTS on it. Damn I want a gold one but could no way justify it...Hey Steve, I'll swap you a Sansui 3000A if you get one for me, LOL

If retail is $900 I wonder what they'll sell for new, then used. I'd totally buy one in the $300 to 400 range. I found my Newark SFV on GC used site for $600 but I think that was a fluke.

SFVs, M75s, and X175s can all be had around $600 if you're patient enough. But that's cheaper than usual, at least.

If I'm correct, they'll sell for about $630-650. Very reasonable, I think. And by the way, I love the black and white versions. Unlike some of you guys, I'm not hung up on absolute authenticity. So what if it's a combination of features? Do you think Guild should just reissue old designs? That's not realistic, because there's a finite number of older models to reissue. They need to release new models. Fender and Gibson have always done mashup guitars, with varying degrees of success.

My advice? Go play one before you diss them. I'm going to call Cordoba tomorrow to see about getting one for review

I watched the video with RJ demonstrating. That's one really nice sounding instrument. I called Cordoba today trying to get one for review, but they've had staff turnover and I've had some difficulty getting through to the new person who handles product requests. We'll see.

There's a satin black one on Reverb (you know, for ninjas). I didn't realize the neck had such a healthy volute.

The X175 Specials in blonde are out.

In this iteration basically exactly the same as a normal Korean X175 but with DeArmond 2000s
They're officially out around November IIRC, these are from a small pilot run of sorts if I understood correctly. They're like the blue specials in that they have the headstock and f-hole binding

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I just can’t get past the location of the bridge pickup. A blonde X-175 with DeArmonds is sort of a holy grail guitar for me, so I’ll just say it’s very disappointing.

but as discussed before, surely not that hard to replace the Franzes? Then you can have one in black!

I'd jump on a Thinline in maple.

Aren't the Franzes a little far back from the bridge, as well? I actually did this on a Starfire with great results. Unlike the Franzes, there aren't any visible cover mounting holes.

I used to have a blonde Newark X-175, but I can't remember what's going on underneath the bridge pickup. Is it just a slot for wiring, or there a route, as well?
