Aren't the Franzes a little far back from the bridge, as well? I actually did this on a Starfire with great results. Unlike the Franzes, there aren't any visible cover mounting holes.

put DeArmonds in? The only thing with the Starfire is the slots in the scratchplate won't match well, whereas with Franz they are more or less the right size. Also, on my Duane I couldn't get a DeArmond to entirely cover the hole. I ended up using Filtertron sized T-Armonds

Yes, I had DeArmonds put it, but I didn't do it myself. They made spacers to cover the little bit of a gap.

I can't remember what's going on underneath the bridge pickup. Is it just a slot for wiring, or there a route, as well?
Slot. Bridge pickup really sits on top of the body. And further from the bridge than an old one, but the slot kind of solves that vs a route if you want to change it. I do think the screws that go through the "ears" of a Franz pickup sit outside the perimeter of a regular DeArmond pickup, no?

The bridge pup was also fairly forward with the Gretsch G5125.

Same pups, btw. Dearmond 2000s rather than Dynasonics. Perhaps people think they're too thin and work better that way?

FWIW...The price point for these guitars are so low that you can customize them to your liking. I picked up GC snd MF credit card with the sole purpose of buying these Guilds with 2 to 4 years of interest free payments to check them out and mess with them if required. I would have no issues with squeezing another DeA in close to the bridge if I felt the existing position didn't provide the bright bite I wanted. At the SF1 series price point you aren't going to impact the price a lot. And if you do a nice job you actually may get a little more.

I want one of these SO BAD, but sadly it would just sit in its case, I would really never play it. Really, really gives me the
vibe of those $89.95 Japanese electrics you used to see all over (in the stores) in the middle '60's...never did see anyone
playing one out though

Funky retro kitsch cool, or severely ugly duckling? I won't comment on the location of the bridge pickup (or did I just do that?)

Starfire I Jet 90
Yeah, pup placement looks a little weird, but the headstock is what kills it for me—"can you say 'butt ugly?'"
Also the heel going all the way out to the 12th fret looks kinda clunky, even though I have the same on my '62 T100D—guess I've gotten too comfortable with my Ibanez necks and my Peavey JF-1. Now, there's a guitar …!

Almost ordered one of these until I saw they were backordered at Sweetwater. They sure look like the best "test bed" guitar around. Really like my SF1 SC and DC.
Intereresting, the Guild description seems to say they look like semihollow body guitars but the wooden block is hollow on the inside.
Did anyone else pickup on that detail up in the specs and description. If true that sure is a nice combination of tone modification and weight reduction.

Me no likes. But they need to sell their stuff- entry level models made in indonesia, „crazy new shit“ like this guitar and so on. Not everyone wants vintage correct models in a higher quality like me (and most of us nerds).

I prefer dot inlays, and don't mind the headstock -- and the bridge pickup position on these is much closer to correct than the goofy SF-I. I truly don't need one, but the black is mighty tempting.

Is $1049 too much to pay for a new everyday hardshell case for my X-440? It would come with a guitar, after all....

I really want to like the new "Dynasonic" models, but there are just too many little details that can't be changed that I don't like. By the time I changed the things than can be changed, it would be a pretty expensive guitar.

True enough -- that's how these things usually go.

I'll probably keep half an eye out, and if I see one for crazy cheap, I might grab one. The A-150 has also caught my eye, for grins.
