I understand Esteban is working on a Chuck Taylor edition with your choice of simulated blue or white canvas finish, cotton strings, and eyelets behind the saddle. Watch for it on his Christmas infomercials.

That wasn't Kevin, that was me citing Kevin! I just want my credit where it's due, 'cause occasionally I get quotes attributed to me that aren't mine.. I know it's just quoting mistake but still....

Sorry there adorshki. I didn't read far enough back on the posts. I'm all for giving credit where credit is due.

Darby Slick & The Great Society!

Song

Band
As long as we have veered to the band, Great Society...

When I was in my "all things Grace" stage I picked up the Great Society LPs that had been released. In addition to such things as pedestrian versions of "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", the thing I remember most was a rather haunting rendition of a song called "Nature Boy" which (unknown to me at the time) was a late 1940's hit written by Nat King Cole. To unveer, that song still goes through my head every time we discuss the finish that Guild labeled "NB" 8)

"It's a strong wind that blows against the empire". 5 brownie points for the first correct reference.
Well, I jump to this but I can't find any explicit statement of where Kantner and Company (a.k.a. Jefferson Starship) got the title or how "wind" gets into it. I always thought of "Blows" Against the Empire as punches or some kind of damage.
Following this veer, I'm running off memory here, it's in the booklet that came with the original pressing, which I have, if not also an actual lyric, and is why I remembered it along with Taabru and Killdeer. HOWEVER, given Paul's known radical politics I'm SURE the album title was an entirely intentional double entendre
Well in the interests of factual accuracy I must admit that I pulled my vinyl of "Blows" over the weekend and while the quote is indeed on the cover of the insert booklet, it is actually:
"It's a FRESH wind that blows against the empire", which is some how even more poetic than my faulty memory's version. All brownie points previously awarded will remain awarded due to judging errors.

THAT'S funny!
I actually love the early interpretions of "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" , my other favorites are "Sally go Round the Roses" and "Father Bruce".
