... I have been a loyal Converse fan for many years, but within the last 10 years they had to declare re-organization bankruptcy, relocate a significant portion if not all their manufacturing to China ... Chucks sadly just ain't what they used to be. Specifically the soles ain't as thick and well padded as they used to be.
Popular fore-runner of the Converse Chuck Taylors ... the Joe Lapchick Playmakers.

In the 80s, I went with Converse Dr Js:

... a very comfortable shoe for playing tennis with weak ankles although the sole compound was pretty soft for asphalt courts.

I always get comments when I wear these on stage. Cool thing is I found them at a yard sale for $5 and they fit perfect.

Okay, I am officially jealous now. Those shoes are the greatest, and part of what makes 'em great is that they only cost $5. Bluelizzard, I nominate you for the Major Score Award for those shoes.

And weighing in on the Chuck Taylor line ... I used leather Converse and Converse Cons during my high school basketball daze, but never got Chuck Taylors until just a few years ago, and frankly I couldn't see what the fuss was about because, as Kevin the Bass Man pointed out, "the soles ain't as thick and well padded as they used to be." Still, I couldn't resist buying a pair of these to pay homage to Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy, Marky, Richie, and the rest ...

Well, I jump to this but I can't find any explicit statement of where Kantner and Company (a.k.a. Jefferson Starship) got the title or how "wind" gets into it. I always thought of "Blows" Against the Empire as punches or some kind of damage.

Following this veer, I'm running off memory here, it's in the booklet that came with the original pressing, which I have, if not also an actual lyric, and is why I remembered it along with Taabru and Killdeer. HOWEVER, given Paul's known radical politics I'm SURE the album title was an entirely intentional double entendre, or are you just baiting me? Just goes to show ya ya can't trust those Wikis for everything....
And now to return to our originally scheduled program I'm happy to announce that Converse is still in the exotic shoe game:

In other news Joe has all 10 brownie poiints awarded so far.
I bet he also knows who the actual author of "Somebody to Love" is...but does he have the vinyl of that band?

That wasn't Kevin, that was me citing Kevin! I just want my credit where it's due, 'cause occasionally I get quotes attributed to me that aren't mine.. I know it's just quoting mistake but still.... 8) So here's some current Converse product:

This has gotta be right up there with the picture of Slash from Guns'n'Roses playing his doubleneck Crossroads in the centerfold of one of the Guild Gallerys...I said to myself "see they really will build one for just anybody..." But hey this thread's related to brands and marketing, right?.
