Univox U-75 2X10. No model or serial number anywhere in/on the amp.
What are the tubes on that? 6BM8s or 6AQ5s?

You've got to find the Kessel connection- that's cool!
Wrecking Crew Carol_Kaye_and_Bill_Pittman with brown Super.jpg

This is a picture of Bill Pitman and Carol Kaye in the studio in an early iteration of the "Wrecking Crew"; Barney Kessel also did some work as part of that group of studio musicians. Behind Pitman is a similar Fender Super. It's fun to speculate that this might be the amp I own. I bought it from a guy who wrote an article in "20th Century Guitar" magazine - I think GGJaguar is familiar with that publication. The article was about factory Fender one-offs or amps with unusual feature sets. This Super with a SS rectifier rather than the standard tube rectifier for this model was mentioned in the article.

The best info (a stretch, admittedly) that was mentioned in the Dave Hunter article was a stamp inside the cabinet from a town in Arizona where a bass player who had played with Barney Kessel either was from, or lived.

Maybe this amp is a candidate for Deke Dickerson to investigate for the next Strat in the Attic book!

Rarer than hen's teeth West Grande R, built by Dave West, Grand Funk's sound was all West amps, big ones, 200W Fillmores.

This is a West Grande R for Reverb. I talked to Dave West on the phone near 20 years ago when I had this, ans he was very surprised, says he barely made any of these. Got it at pawn shop not working for a song. Brought it home, fiddled with it and it worked fine ;]

Big iron, running KT88's, Tele style impedence switch in the front. Sold it and that Super Six can converted to 4x12's to a guy from Seattle, way back when, then the same day traded a vintage Les Paul Custom for a complete 1973 Orange OR80 half stack.

So Ieft home on a 300 mile drive with the West and Les Paul, came back with cash and the Orange.

Orange with my other Custom at the time, the very Frampton like triple p'up. These are really an odd beast with different tones. The Orange was pure holy grail tube tone.

I have a Univox from Florida that has "Petty" etched on the back.
Not sure if it was owned by Tom or Richard...

Lol

I had a Traynor Bass head - small - that had N. SIXX painted inside, BIG LETTERS. Got it from this wheeler dealer friend of mine who liked to avoid NW winters by driving to Florida and hanging out at these huge flea markets in his RV, this has been a while now and he's long passed away. Anyway, he said he got it in LA from Nikki Sixx's roadie who was peddling gear that had obviously been upgraded, no offense to Traynor, at all. I traded a Dodge Colt wagon that was starting to smoke, good trade ;]

When I got rid of it, traded it in at a famous local pawnshop for something else, they were aholes about it, even tho the head wasn't worth much in those days, it was like I had wrote that in there myself to try to make it worth more.

My guess is if you interviewed Nikki Sixx, I have no doubt he owned it.

Who the H would put someone else name inside an amp?

Home Sweet home, Kickstart My Heart, Looks That Kill, Smokin in the Boys Room, wow, what a band. Who knows, with provenance, that head could be worth a lot now. Might be worth more if Sixx had checked out, but no matter how hard he tried, he's still here. I remember reading that he claimed to have OD'd like a dozen times. Heroin. One time, they had to use two syringes of adrenaline, and he was clinically dead for 2 minutes, but he could still play bass afterwards ;]

What does that say about playing bass, in Motley Crue?

Lol

Yes, though I recently sold it (had replacement P10R speakers). Funny thing, it wasn't a holy grail for me. Neither was my '61 Twin. They just didn't do it for me and people think I'm crazy for that.
oh, I do get that - all very personal, people go gaga over original Vox AC30's, and I can't get a sound I like out of them. A friend of mine had a '60 tweed bassman, and I still think about that amp and how perfect it was !!!

MIGHTY 1973 Ampeg V4 on 1973 8x10 cab with all original cones.

The most insane guitar amp ever, feel it in your chest, I had it A/B/Y'd with my Marshall JMP50 w 4x12 cab on other side of room, running a Russian Big Muff into the Ampeg, a tube Varidrive into Fender tube reverb into the Marshall. The tone...

Let it go in a restaurant parking lot for $1500, sad day, but better for my back ;]

Yes, that's a ratchet on top, 1" drive ;]

The Marshall with Dano that some guy desperately wanted long after I'd pulled the Reverb ad, coming to my senses, but he had to have it. No fee side deal, didn't really mind that, but my Dano's gone...

All things must pass.

I did. And now the Dano.

The JMP50 and 4x12 with Greenbacks was superlative, unbelievable. Dead quiet at idle. Thick Rock n' Roll tones, very compressed but capable of cutting through anything. Would keep up with any drum set, drown the guy out.

Most of the time I played it at low levels. I probably have hearing damage.

I can't really hear the Diode bleeeeeeep of my Fluke on that setting instead of Ohms, but wife can "OMG can you hear that?" Me, disconnects the leads, "faint" bleep I noticed once she said something goes away. Me "No (honest), what?"

Yeah after having my twin for a bit I think I like my Mesa better. Definitely no buyers remorse it’s a great amp just not the Mesa . I think I just wanted a new amp so bad in my head I convinced myself something was going on that wasn’t because I haven’t heard a thing since I got my fender 😂
