It's a super rare amp...for a reason. It totally abuses the 6BQ5 tubes. No idea what Leo was thinking.

"EL84" is the British name for the American 6BQ5. Nobody in the US called them EL84s until the AC30 became trendy again in the 90's

I've seen one that cooked, and under Fender warrantee was upgraded to 6G9A. WAY too much voltage for the EL84s.

I haven't kept count but I think I've seen three with the 2x10 cab.
I wouldn't be surprised. I have a transitional 6G6 (solid state rectifier, but 6G6 circuit with 8-ohm OT) that came from the factory with the small Bassman cab but at 4-ohm (2x12") instead of the usual small cab with 1x12" and tone ring. With Fender, anything goes.

Not only was it the golden age of amps, it was the wild west where anything goes. There was so much going on with companies trying to keep up with an exploding market and changing technology. So many cool amps, lots of wild ideas, and plenty of junk.

Looks like a "Fender Electric Inst", so a 6G6B?
Great amps for sure.
Yeah - bought the head and then restored it to what I liked. This was when I was deep into my Setzer Tone period.

Sweet!! The complete Setzer tone also requires a Roland Space Echo! 😉

Not a good idea to try and get 30 Watts out of a pair of EL84s! Better to do like Vox who got half that power from a pair and used four to get 30 Watts.
