Rough shaping the braces. (A whole lot easier BEFORE the cross bars go on.)

White cats are sometimes deaf . . . you might want to assign her tasks other than tap-tuning the bracing!

And at the other end of the skill scale, I was going to just ask the forum about the best sounding Guild classical guitar. Your thinking,," Premade guitars be damned! "

Very cool to see your progress so far, Chris. You're at the point with the top that I always thought seems the most critical and also fun -- the tap tuning. I've seen some pretty amazing vids on analysis of resonance response and so forth. There's one by Dana Bourgeios that demonstrates the depth of approach, methodology, and analysis tools he uses when shaping the braces that blew me away. Amazing! Wouldn't doubt you've seen it already.

Can't wait to see and hear the finished product. Love watching your builds!

Still hot out, but it’s time for a scarf.

The plane (De plane, de plane!) trues the saw cut using both edges to register against.

The sanding beam flattens any plane marks.

Clamps, clamps, clamps.

Scarf joint all cleaned up. Spanish cedar planes so beautifully! (Mahogany has reversing grain that can be problematical and maple is just hard evil!) The rosewood and maple veneer overlays will make the joint that much stronger.

When I did my classical headstock design initially, I did it on the fly, so I had to reverse engineer a template for this, and future builds. But, they will all probably be slightly different since they will all be done with hand tools, unlike my typical router setup for the steel strings.

Black, white, rosewood sandwich under that forest of clamps. I’m sure I could get by using fewer with a caul, but there’s far too great a chance of things slipping out of place under clamping pressure (before glue gets sticky, it’s slippery). This way, I can see exactly where everything is, and make sure it stayed where I want it.
