Or a new high, but I catch your drift.
Whomever thought the movie "Idiocracy" was a bit too far fetched can revisit, we're literally LIVING it.
One of my faves!!!! :D

Was never a Beavis and Butthead fan, but everything else Mike Judge has done since then has been on my favorites.

In a totally different realm, if you haven't watched "Tales from the Tour Bus" series (was released on Cinemax), find it and watch both seasons. Bluesy, you must watch the second season about Funk. Seriously. Mike Judge did a great job with these.

I remember an episode of Beavis and Butthead that revolves around them putting gas in a trash bag.

Yep... my wife yesterday read about a Hummer loaded with filled gas cans that caught on fire.
Forgot which state, morons are everywhere, but it was the South.
And all of this for absolutely no reason, mind you. Every news outlet in the country was telling us it would be a matter of a couple of days until stations get re-stocked and that there was no need to panic, well guess what?... same scenario as with TP in early Covid days!

Conclusion:
  1. Hoarding TP is safer than gasoline.
  2. Morons are not an endangered species.

Hummer catches fire after driver fills 4 containers of gasoline (msn.com)

If only we weren't interfering so much with Darwinian evolution ...

Yeah, people drank bleach because they are stupid, same reason as putting gas in plastic bags. You can't fix stupid. Often these folks simply remove themselves from the gene pool.

I think we should possibly consider the difference between stupidity and ignorance. Also, poor people who need to drive to and from work to live may feel like they have no other option than to try and hoard gas, but without any knowledge of how to do that they simply do what they think they have to do to survive.

Agreed on the form, but at the risk of coming across as mean and intolerant, I would respectfully suggest that no matter how high one's level of ignorance is, if one was able to hear the news mentioning the broken pipeline, one was also able to hear that stations would get refilled with gas in a matter of days and that there was no need to panic / hoard.
I sincerely doubt that many folks need to fill up every day to go to and from work.

As to the plastic bags, I give up. I'll admit to being unable tackling this one with a straight face.

I would say after considering GAD's post premise, I am actually wondering why no one approached that lady from the clip above, and attempted to educate her on the flammable properties of gasoline and general purpose of shopping bags.
People's indifference can hurt too.
Actually in this case, it gets close to non assistance to person in danger.

Perhaps ignorance is a better way to say it, GAD, thanks.

I think to an extent hoarding is kind of human nature. Panic hoarding maybe moreso. The smart ones just do it beforehand.

I totally agree. We collectively now would rather film dangerous stupidity for the chance at some pointless internet Likes than help a fellow human.

I'm totally guilty of "pointing and laughing" mentality so I'm no saint, but I've also learned a lot of life lessons the hard way so sometimes empathy wins. :)

I had a girlfriend who once said, "The only miracles in life are babies and fax machines" and she was totally serious. Some people just don't know how parts of the world work.
