That is correct! Not only don't we have self-service, it is illegal to pump your own. (Oh, and our gas doesn't cost any more!)

Correct if you remember the days when pumps had two prices - a higher one for full service and a lower one for self service. But when driving from Virginia to NJ or through NJ to New England there were times and places when not getting gas in NJ was the cheapest option. Sometimes, not always and with the Colonial Pipeline panic who knows what the situation is today? :)

Diesel is not as flammable ?
Correct.

See:

NJ also regulates the type of container that can be filled with gasoline:

12:196-1.6 Portable containers

(a) An attendant shall only dispense fuel into a portable container which:

  1. Is of sound metal construction or is of approved non-metal construction;
  2. Has a tight closure with screwed or spring cover; and
  3. Is fitted with a spout or so designed that the contents may be poured without spilling.
(b) Portable containers constructed of non-metallic materials shall conspicuously display an embossment by the manufacturer of the logogram of a nationally recognized testing laboratory.

(c) Gasoline shall not be dispensed into glass containers.

(d) Portable containers intended to hold 10 gallons (0.038 cubic meters) or less and to be used for gasoline or other flammable liquid shall be red in color as specified in the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, N.J.A.C. 5:18. The name of the flammable liquid shall be prominently displayed on the container in bold letters of a contrasting color.

Throw a lit match into a full can of gas and it will just burn. Throw a lit match into an almost empty can of gas and you will surely die.

Are you kidding me?!!! A trunk full of bags of gas?!!!

How are those people even smart enough to have passed a driving test?
There's a test?

I wondered if the gas would make the bags break down faster. I guess some people have the firsthand answer to that.
Yeah, paper bags'd last longer.
