I was really hoping we'd get a good soaking rain here on Long Island after the most atrociously hot and dry summer that I can remember. Now the weather guys are just calling for a lot of wind and beach erosion on the east end. :(

Love seeing them stay away from our coast!
Hopefully won't be too bad by the time (and if) it brushes the North East.....

Pack up the Guilds and head for the hills.
But isn't that where they have tornadoes?!!!!

Well not exactly Bluesy, but you do want to be on higher ground. One of the salient features of my house is its 100ft elevation on a largely sea level Long Island. Don't have to worry about flooding around here. :D

I have a buddy who lost three really nice cars (including a mid year Corvette) because he insisted on living on the canal in Freeport on the south shore). One noreaster and the house and cars were under water. He lives on higher ground now on the north shore near me now. 8)

When I made the mistake of leaving South Florida, looking for new adventures up in Georgia  , we had 3 tornadoe warnings the first 6 months..... :?
And I'm not gonna start with Tennessee, Oklahoma etc.......
Yes hurricanes are bad, but I'll take as many you want to throw at me against one tornadoe!
Granted, I don't live right on the water, nor in a flood zone, thankfully.

I can't argue with you there! I'll take hurricanes anytime too; it helps that they almost never make direct hits here. :D

Amen my brothers, Tornadoes grow local, from nothing, sneaky devils appear like an evil ghost.

Out here we received some a gentle and welcome rain. Winds gusting to 10 mph. Small fire crackling in the stove. Actually we could use a good wind storm around here, it's been pretty peaceful the last few years, A good windstorm makes gathering firewood a bit more of a local affair.

Wow! I didn't think any place on the Island was that high. As to your dry summer, you didn't get any of the rain like we had here last week? We had several inches in large parts of Connecticut, I think we had 3 or more here and we're only 3-4 miles from the shore. Ruined my beach plans for my first week of vacation.

We got just a sprinkling out of that here, and I was really looking for more. We have a Birch tree in the front yard whose leaves have turned already due to the heat and dryness this summer. I like it when everything stays nice and green around here, and you need steady precipitation for that. Also there's plenty of place on Long Island that are 100ft up; all on the north shore!
