A friend once shared a "scholarly monograph" that analyzed RB's solos and compared them to Vivaldi concertos. Not sure whether it was a compliment or an insult for a rock star to have so much in common with a classical composer from a couple years earlier.

RB had Jon Lord, also an accomplished musician, to work with on stage; he didn't have to carry everything and he and Lord would bang it back and forth to the crowd's delight; a staged 'competition' to see who was the more musical and clever. No Fillmore screech or Carlos just standing there endlessly (mindlessly?) bending the same note in torture test mode. Very musical, lively, inventive - RB most reminiscent of Mick Taylor in the MSG/Ya Yas period.
