Since I'm just an unReconstructed hippie weirdo freak, I still feel that anything I have that I don't need ought to go to someone who can use it better...and, as you can see below, my head doesn't need any articficial covers

Thank you Michael / Coastie / Jane / West; a fine gift indeed! and ... Professor Mike ... thank you again and what a fine pic! Did the local school board object to your 'unreconstructed' look?

John, the board never objected to my appearance, or even the fact that I always went to school in jeans and tshirts. I also kept a guitar in my classroom at all times, and used it frequently in teaching US History.

West, I think that pic is 8 years ago or so...my hair is grayer and beard is longer now,,,otherwise no real changes. This one's about a year old, and has a Guild in it.

My kids are so long out of HS, I hardly remember what the male teachers wore. The generation before, my male teachers in the same area had worn coats and ties. My BA is in History.

My neighbor has a macaw; I watch it when they go away; bird is +/- 25 years old; I might not see her for 6 months but when I walk in, she engages in 'greeting behavior' - twisting head down and under. It's not exactly a hug but pretty different from the hostility she puts on when she's got an egg in her cage. The bird has an extraordinary squawk; loud and piercing. j

Guildmark, those two are more finger-pickers than strummers. I also have 4 amazons...but they're the shredder type. :p

John, there are currently 8 macaws in residence here at the Rescue, along with about a dozen other parrots of various types. I hope to have 5 or 6 of the birds in adoptive homes by the end of the month.

My sister keeps tropical birds. Muloccan's I think is what she calls em.

Beware, these suckers could take a guitar apart in 2 minutes. My sis lets em out once in a while, they prune limbs off of trees & destroy deck railings in nuthin flat. Regular loggers they are & noisy.

Beavers that fly ...gotta be careful with birds that 'talk'. When my neighbor is outside and his wife wants his attention, she sort of 'hollers' out his name ... including that unmistakable tone of nagging immediacy. Over the years, his name has been the most-repeated loud 'noise' the bird hears from the humans. When the weather is fair, they put the bird in a 6' X 6' X 6' outdoor cage where it sits and squawks his name, mimicing his wife's tone, at the top of its voice: 'Gary' ... 'Gary' ... 'Gary'. Some of you might score this as cruel and humiliating but he scores it: 'this is what you sound like Honey' ...Manlaw. The cage is also on the other side of their house ...

Threadjack.

It amazed me when I first found out that in many cases a parrot that lives 50 years dies young. I'm glad you are doing Rescue.

parrot talk (was GUILD CAP)

Beavers that fly

we're getting into nesting season for the macaws right now. I'll hang a five-pound string of 2x4 chunks in a cage in the morning, and next day there's nothing but a chain in the cage and a pile of splinters on the floor.

fronobulax, I threadjacked this thread quite a ways back...but I originated it...maybe I should just rename it and let someone move it to an off-topic area.

I think we could wrap this thread up if Graham could provide us with a picture of capnjuan in his hat with a parrot on his shoulder!
(The eye patch would be optional!)

No guano on my shoulders makes me happy
Guano in my eyes can make me cry
Guano on the water looks so ugly
Guano almost always makes me sigh ... John Denver
