We have minor tremblors in MD from time to time.
Hurricanes rarely.
Snow yearly.
Minor tornados yearly.
Ice yearly.
Flash floods regularly, but only effect small pockets of territory. Just hope you don’t own anything in it.
You can die from exposure from October-early May, provided conditions are right (wet, below 60F).
But all-in-all it is a pleasant weather state to live in. Almost no weather extremes here, which is nice. You will never have to live in fear of the EF5, the CAT 5, The Richter 9, tsunami, or forest fire.
Maybe the entitlement and aggressive driving is the worst disasters we have.
Also, being called a Southerner AND an Yankee by everyone else up and down the east coast is no fun.
Oh yes, property taxes are just downright abusive.
Maybe things woulda been better without the revolution (the one in 1776).

Shaniko, Oregon. Towards the eastern side of the Sierras, bordering Oregon's central plateau, low fire danger:

Shaniko hasn't changed much since I passed through in '89, I think it was. Stable. Lotta privacy.

I don't think there's a perfect place to live. Besides there's the restlessness of human nature such that if you found a place with a climate that you love year-round, you'd start to miss some of the extreme weather of where you moved from (probably).

Add to that when you have a spouse / +1 to worry about, it's rare to fine perfect common ground. Before we divorced, my ex- was looking to downsize and we NEVER agreed on comfortable temps period -- even inside the house to begin with.... Sigh. I probably shouldn't go there.

Anyway, the truth is that I love the variety that I get here in Massachusetts. You get "real" winters. You get "real" summers. -- and I mean all the bad with the good. Fall and spring can be just spectacular and they're always there to look forward to.

When my bones really do start to creak and I can't take the effort of pushing my snowblower in the winter and my lawn mower in the summer, well, I'll either write checks for that or consider moving. For me, ultimately, I'd love to go where my friends are. I just don't know if that'll ever really happen because they're all over the place and I can't even begin to afford a place in the Bay Area that I'd like to live in.

I've lived in MA all my life, the same town for most of it. I agree with you regarding the seasons. We are talking about downsizing in the future, but it will undoubtedly be within 100 miles at most.

Not living here, just a beautiful day in Trier, Germany. Finally sun and warm weather… sitting on a terrrace. Just had lasagna for dinner. I guess vacation and freedom is going to places where you don’t live… and afterwards it is good going/ being home again….
