With the exception of 2 years in Alaska and 5 in Washington / Oregon, I have been in New England for 72 years. Born is Boston and grew up there and in the suburbs. It took moving out west for 7 years to realize, I did not want any part of Massachusetts. In 1983 we bought a KOA Kampground and followed our dream to the mountains of New Hampshire, where we've been for 38 years. Great place to live and raise 3 kids.
Doing things winter related, don't appeal to me. Skiing, snowmobiling, shoveling, slipping and sliding.........no thanks. Finally, about 9 years ago, I drew the line in the sand. I told the Mrs., I'm not staying up here in the winter anymore, end of discussion. She had a little part time job, that she liked, I get it. The little job gave us some separation time and she is 5 years younger. She knew I was right and soon we were on the same page.
So, now we go to Saint Simons Island GA for three months in the winter; no snow, no ice, no snow tires, no cold. But I trade it in for warm weather, not hot, warm, no crowds. We're half way between Jaxsonville and Savannah, so there's plenty to do. After 3 months, I'm ready to head north and get back into my element.
You can't beat New Hampshire for 9 months. Piece it together with 3 months down south it's a perfect match. Like Sandy said, I dont like it hot either, nor do I like the cold. I don't like hurricanes, tornadoes and 85 plus or 20 and below weather. Throw in crowds and traffic. Florida is not for me; but each to his own. And at 72, not interested in picking up and starting new.
