If one was going to relocate to FLA, and wanted as close to the following as possible, where would one focus?

Some homesteading.
60-90 mins to ocean
More rural than city
More affordable than not

thanks!

When we annex Cuba, that's your move.

I'll be interested in the answers, myself, Woody. I thought Florida was pretty much all crawlin' with people and running out of room.

I used to know a guy who retired from the National Weather Service, and he settled on the Ocala vicinity due to a lower risk of hurricanes.

Anywhere north of Ocala. About there the interstate turns to 3 lanes, the terrain flattens,, and you're off to the bright lights of South Florida..

We live near Pensacola, but this sleepy town is growing fast, with the builders in cahoots with the county commissioners, so they are building homes like crazy but the roads and schools will come later.

Ocala is pretty nice, lots of thoroughbreed horse outfits. We flew into the airport General aviation place once for fuel, pretty ritzy.

That gulf is filthy, blowing all up in your face. That ain't the ocean. Careful, you're gettin' in there with the backward inbred swamp weirdos too. Better crossing over to the Daytona Beach side, inland and across to Tampa area.

Another filthy day at the beach...lol

Honestly if you head west the water turns muddy around Gulf Shores, as you head towards the Mississippi Delta.

Local guy getting gas....

This guy catches a lot of sharks, but works with the local fish and wildlife to document, tag and release. This one wouldn't have survived the release, so they ate it!

I have a strict five day limit in Florida!

Ha! Me too! Several vacations with the kids over Christmas and Spring Breaks, had a blast! Haven't been back since they grew up...

Woody, are you moving from AZ to FL? No interest in cold weather?

We still mulling it over. We do prefer cooler weather.
