I wonder if they make a "Smoking Transformer" or "Blown Electrolytic Cap" scented candle.

My father-in-law was an electrical lineman. As he lay dying from lung cancer he told me how he used to work on the inside of transformers "up to his elbows" in PCB oil.

If you listen to audiophiles talk about skin effect (don’t get me started) then you know that all the electrons travel on the outside of the wire so this must be fine. Of course those same audiophiles demand silver braided power cords, and connections made with silver solder, so…

Was this photo taken right before it got taped up like the connection on the left?

I'm guessing they didn't have enough slack to get the cable down to the screw connector?

I'm guessing the electrical tape covers a similar "splice" and the pic was taken when an inspector/actual electrician/someone with a clue pulled off the tape to take a look.
